Overview Port Police Specialist (Lateral) 3238 – Revised 06/30/26 Location: City of Los Angeles, CA Department: Harbor Job Type: FULL-TIME Salary: $92,185.00 – $127,660.00 Annually (salary at start of the pay range; current range subject to change; confirm starting salary with the hiring department) Job Number: 3238 O 2026/06/26 Closing Date: Continuous Responsibilities A Port Police Specialist is a sworn peace officer authorized to carry a firearm. Responsibilities include: Enforcing federal and state laws, City of Los Angeles ordinances, and security, traffic, and safety rules and regulations. Engaging in law enforcement activities such as uniformed foot, vehicle, boat, and bicycle patrol and plainclothes assignments at the Port of Los Angeles. Making arrests and preparing written reports; providing information to the public regarding locations and operations of the Department. Engaging in hazardous materials enforcement and performing related duties. Minimum Qualifications Possess a current California Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate at the time of application; or standing as an LAPD Line Reserve Officer with Certified Designated level 1 (CDL) status; or a Basic Course Waiver issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment. Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Process Notes A valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California DMV is required at the time of appointment. Applicants with three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a major moving violation within the last 36 months, will be disqualified or deemed ineligible. The City of Los Angeles reserves the right to issue a notice of disqualification or ineligibility at any time before a final job offer. All applicants must complete the entry-level Peace Officer Supplemental Questionnaire at the time of filing; failure to complete will disqualify the applicant from consideration.
