Reports to: Principal Supervises: Will supervise as assigned by the principal. Purpose: The assistant principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program. Duties and Responsibilities Pre-Class Organization: Assist in implementing student orientation and registration activities. Planning the School Program: Assist in development and establishing of school goals and objectives and program planning. Implementing the School Program: Provide direction to staff, assist in development. Evaluating and Remediation of the School Program: Evaluate program and staff, initiate improvements. Involving the Staff in Budget Allocations: Involve staff in setting budget priorities. Keeping Professionally Competent: Upgrade own professional knowledge and skills. Coordinating Budgets and Schedules: Assist in preparation and management of budgets and schedules, coordinate co‑curricular program. Handling Disciplinary Procedures: Define and disseminate discipline policy to stakeholders. Coordinating and Communicating the Schools Formal Structure: Communicate policies, delegate responsibilities, and communicate program goals to community. Coordinating School Services and Resources: Supervise and maintain auxiliary services, use community resources. Facilitating Organizational Efficiency: Promote open communication, positive student attitudes, respect dignity, comply with authority lines. Assisting in Record Keeping: Assist in records, reports, supervision, inventory of supplies, textbooks, equipment. Minimum Training and Experience Master’s degree in Education Administration, 3 to 5 years of classroom teaching experience or equivalent combination. Special Requirements Possess a teaching certificate from the State of North Carolina. Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Operate equipment, drive, lift up to 10 pounds, light work walking or standing. Data Conception: Compare and judge data and other characteristics. Interpersonal Communication: Speak and signal to convey information, give instructions. Language Ability: Read and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, charts; speak before groups. Intelligence: Apply principle thinking, evaluate data, interpret instructions. Verbal Aptitude: Record, deliver, explain information; communicate effectively in Standard English. Numerical Aptitude: Use mathematical formulas, basic arithmetic, statistics. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for size. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle items, hand tools. Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Adaptable under stress, emergency situations. Physical Communication: Talk and hear, use telephone.
