Minimum Qualifications High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Some training or education related to fire department operations is desirable. Emergency Response Displays mechanical aptitude. Demonstrates situational awareness on emergency scenes and in training exercises, and in and around the fire station. Remains calm, thinks clearly and acts decisively on the emergency scenes. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license and demonstrate a satisfactory driving record. Possession of or ability to obtain a DMV Firefighter Endorsement within six months of employment. Possession of a current California EMT certification or National Registry EMT certification eligible for local accreditation. Possession of a current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent (Healthcare Provider Level). Physical Demands Performs sustained physical exertion during emergency response, including walking, running, kneeling, crouching, and crawling on uneven, wet, slippery, or unstable surfaces at incident and patient locations. Requires the strength and dexterity to lift, carry, push, and pull loaded stretchers, gurneys, and medical equipment, including up and down stairs and ramps; lifts and transfers patients of varying size and mobility, up to 100+ pounds unassisted and up to 200+ pounds with assistance. Requires the ability to reach above the head and below the waist, often in confined spaces such as vehicle interiors, bathrooms, and stairwells. Requires manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate medical equipment and perform patient care procedures, including sustained repetitive exertion during CPR. Requires visual acuity sufficient to read gauges, monitors, and patient indicators, and to observe conditions in a variety of lighting, including bright light, low light, and low-visibility environments. Requires hearing acuity sufficient to communicate over radio equipment and to assess patient condition (e.g., breath sounds, vital signs) amid ambient noise. Requires the ability to sit for extended periods while operating an emergency vehicle, and to work extended, irregular, or rotating shifts under physically and mentally demanding conditions. Involves potential exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and combative or distressed individuals. Working Conditions Works in a combined station and field environment, including extended, irregular, or rotating shifts requiring sustained readiness to respond. During emergency incidents, works in both outdoor and indoor environments with intermittent to frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions. Operates ambulances and other department vehicles safely and proficiently in emergency and non-emergency situations, including Code 3 responses, and is exposed to significant risk in heavy-traffic areas such as freeways and roadways. Responds to and works within fire-related and other hazardous incident scenes that carry risk of severe injury or death. Frequently works in close proximity to patients in confined spaces, including ambulance interiors, residences, bathrooms, and vehicles involved in collisions. Regularly exposed to bodily fluids, communicable and infectious diseases, and bloodborne pathogens through direct patient contact and emergency medical procedures; exposed to hazardous materials and biohazardous/medical waste, including handling and transport of sharps containers. May encounter combative, unpredictable, intoxicated, or psychologically distressed individuals, with associated risk of physical assault. Regularly exposed to traumatic, emotionally distressing, and high-stress situations involving serious injury, illness, or death. Exposed to prolonged and repeated high-decibel noise from sirens, in-vehicle radio equipment, and emergency scene operations.

Tentative Interview Dates: First Round Interview: August 3, 2026 Second Round Interview: August 6, 2026 Subject to change at the discretion of the personnel officer. Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates who best match the needs of the Fire District will be invited to compete further in the examination process. All candidates will be notified of their application status by email throughout the recruitment process. Candidates invited to compete in the examination process, who successfully pass the examination process, will be place on an eligibility list. The candidate on the eligibility list who most closely meets the requirements of the Fire District may be selected to receive a final offer. The Fire District may conclude that none of the candidates, even those who meet the minimum qualifications, are appropriate for the position. Successful candidates shall be required to complete all of the following: Pass a reference and background verification. References will not be contacted until a mutual interest has been established. Provide proof of a valid driver's license and be insurable. Degree Verification, if applicable. Pass a pre-employment medical exam, including drug/alcohol screening. Successful completion of a psychological examination administered through the District's contract provider (For applicable positions). Provide proof of a current California EMT certification or National Registry EMT certification. Provide proof of CPR Certification.
