Professor of Legal Writing

Professor of Legal Writing Capital University Law School is hiring a full-time, non‑tenure‑track Professor of Legal Writing to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will teach in the Legal Research and Writing program each semester, including at least one section of the legal research and writing course for first‑year law students, and may also teach additional courses such as Legal Drafting Practicum, Appellate Advocacy, and Legislation and Regulation. Responsibilities Teach the first‑year legal research and writing course and other required courses. Develop, implement, and assess course materials, lesson plans, and assignments in accordance with program policies. Provide extensive critique of student research and writing projects and meet with students in individual conferences outside of class time. Hold weekly office hours to address general questions and concerns. Participate fully in faculty governance, including serving on Law School and University committees with full voting rights. Collaborate with the legal writing faculty team to continually improve the program. Qualifications J.D. degree with strong academic credentials. At least three years of law practice experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and collegially as part of a team. Benefits Competitive salary in the range of $70,000 – $74,500 for the 9‑month academic year with opportunities to earn stipends for teaching additional courses.
