Lead Control Systems Engineer - Aurora, OH

This partnership supports delivery of complex HVAC, industrial utility, and mission-critical facility automation projects from design through commissioning and final turnover.

Summary

This is a senior-level controls engineering role responsible for leading building automation projects across design, configuration, installation, and onsite commissioning. The Lead Controls System Engineer will oversee a multidisciplinary engineering team, support customer engagement, and ensure successful execution of control system design and field startup activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for a project team of approximately 25 engineers

• Assign engineering tasks and support project execution planning

• Support change order development through hardware and engineering effort estimation

• Develop instrument lists using P&ID drawings

• Select instrumentation including transmitters, flow meters, and valve actuators

• Specify controls hardware and system components

• Create panel layouts and electrical schematics for control enclosures

• Compile submittal packages for instrumentation and controls systems

• Support procurement of project hardware

• Provide technical support to panel fabrication teams and inspect completed enclosures

• Lead customer design review meetings

• Configure HMI, DDC, PLC, and/or DCS control systems

• Develop control logic, algorithms, and system configurations

• Execute internal functional testing and quality validation

• Prepare system documentation and support customer acceptance testing

• Perform onsite commissioning including software installation and system startup

• Conduct loop checks, calibration, tuning, and functional system testing

• Train customer personnel on system operation and maintenance

Requirements

• Experience in building automation or industrial controls systems

• Proficiency in platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Inductive Automation Ignition, Distech, or Niagara

• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and sequences of operation

• Experience with P&IDs, instrumentation, and control valve systems

• Knowledge of chiller plants, boiler systems, and facility utilities

• Understanding of electrical distribution systems and single-line diagrams

• Onsite commissioning and field startup experience required

• Experience with low-voltage electrical installation and subcontractor coordination

• Familiarity with GAMP principles and structured automation practices
