Job Title: RN - Labor & Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring training Must-Have: Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother as well as receive and transition the newborn, including assessment. Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies preferred. Advanced skills needed in fetal monitoring, experience with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil). Description: The unit has 9 delivery beds, 1 OB emergency bed, and a 4-bed NICU. Patient ratios are 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, and couplet care is 1:3 for newborns. Newborns are 1:1 until stable, while NICU is 1:3 for intermediate care; but 2 NICU nurses must be present in the unit if there are neonates. There are no techs or unit secretaries available on the unit. The equipment includes central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologist, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps. The documentation system used is Meditech and central monitoring. Scheduling requirements include full-time shifts of 3 days per week, with rotating weekends and holidays, and PRNs to complete staffing. Floating policies state that regular staff, when not needed on the unit, are expected to float to other areas within the facility as necessary. Some staff are cross-trained to float between labor & delivery and the NICU. Patient experience requirements involve daily rounding on all patients, ensuring safety through regular check-ins. The unit is accredited by relevant certifying bodies. The skill set required entails labor and delivery experience, particularly in handling emergencies. Procedures performed include C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries. Prospective candidates will find a supportive team with seasoned, experienced RNs available as resources and preceptors. This unit is ideal for gaining comprehensive experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care. The team has a strong sense of collaboration and assists each other effectively.
