Job Overview The Clinical Scholar I is responsible for supervision and evaluation of pre-licensure student nurses in clinical rotations at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Clinical Scholars incorporate evidence-based clinical teaching and learning strategies to provide a safe, population specific learning environment for student nurses. Clinical Scholars support the clinical nurse preceptors working with student nurses in providing direct patient care. Clinical Scholars work in collaboration with the course faculty at Schools of Nursing and Clinical Placement Program in Professional Development to meet the course objectives for clinical rotations occurring at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The Clinical Scholar I is a secondary position within Children’s Hospital Colorado and reports to the Clinical Scholar Program Manager in Professional Development. Department Name: Anschutz Clinical Scholars Job Status: flex, not eligible for benefits Shift: 12- hour days, supporting Mental Health in PMHI Duties & Responsibilities Supervise and evaluate students in basic pediatric, community health, or psychiatric rotations as coordinated by Clinical Scholar Program Manager to meet the needs of the Clinical Placement Program. Maintain presence on clinical care unit(s) throughout the shift, making rounds with students and preceptors, reviewing and discussing student clinical prep work, and facilitating clinical conferences with students. Assist preceptors with student-related patient care, as appropriate. Assess student performance in clinical setting, and progression of skills/abilities across the duration of the clinical rotation. Consult/debrief daily with student and nurse preceptors on student progress. Communicate with School of Nursing course faculty about student performance. Communicate with Clinical Scholar Program Manager any student performance concerns. Complete School of Nursing clinical evaluation tool for each student during clinical rotations. Create and post student assignment sheets on designated unit using templates as developed by Professional Development Department. Communicate with unit Clinical Education Specialist to identify planned nurse preceptors. Contribute to the development and revision of learning tools for student clinical conferences. Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or enrollment in a MSN program Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent, professional nursing clinical experience in pediatrics. Must be currently employed as a Registered Nurse at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Equivalency: A graduate degree in a relevant field plus a post-master’s certificate in nursing/health care education may be considered in lieu of the MSN or enrollment in MSN program.
