Senior Tax Accountant Opportunity A well-established, boutique public accounting firm based in Westlake Village, CA is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their close-knit team of five. With a client-first philosophy and a strong emphasis on technical expertise, this firm provides personalized tax preparation, tax planning, tax problem resolution, financial planning, bookkeeping, and payroll services to individuals and businesses across a variety of industries. The Opportunity The Senior Tax Accountant will work directly alongside the firm's principals, managing a book of approximately 100 client accounts with the latitude to take on greater complexity over time. The work is primarily remote-client facing (email, phone, and occasional video), and the right person will be comfortable communicating directly with clients in a professional, personable way. The day-to-day breakdown is approximately: 80% tax preparation and compliance 10% bookkeeping and accounting 10% client communication and relationship management What You'll Do Prepare and review individual, corporate (S-Corp and C-Corp), and partnership tax returns Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 client accounts, with complexity scaling to your experience level Communicate directly with clients via email, phone, and video to gather information, explain tax positions, and provide guidance Assist with tax problem resolution, including IRS correspondence, audit support, and related matters Perform bookkeeping and accounting tasks as needed to support client engagements Work collaboratively with other accountants and firm principals in a small-team environment What We're Looking For 8+ years of experience in public accounting must come from a public accounting background (not corporate) CPA or Enrolled Agent designation preferred; candidates with substantial experience but no CPA will be considered Solid, demonstrable knowledge of tax law across individual, corporate, and partnership returns Strong tenure at previous employers job stability is critical; ideally 3+ years with a single firm Comfortable working directly with clients in a professional, approachable manner Strong bookkeeping and accounting skills QuickBooks proficiency a plus Must be local to the Westlake Village/Conejo Valley area (Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley) and able to commute to the office full time this is a 100% on-site role Nice to Have Experience with multi-state returns Estate and trust tax preparation background Familiarity with tax resolution matters (offers in compromise, installment agreements, audit representation) Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $80,000 $100,000 depending on experience Overtime-based bonus Health insurance 100% employer-paid 401(k) 2 weeks paid vacation, accrued from date of hire Who Thrives Here This role is best suited for a seasoned tax professional who takes pride in their technical knowledge, values stability, and wants to be a meaningful contributor in a small firm environment.
