Flight Paramedic

Flight ParamedicThe Flight Paramedic provides intensive care level life support services to critically-ill and/or injured patients as part of an integrated air transport team.Environmental and Mechanical Considerations:Flight Paramedics deliver critical care services under the stresses of flight, with frequent exposure to blood/body fluids, in sometimes hazardous conditions, near moving mechanical parts and within high noise environments. Training and resources are available to mitigate risk as appropriate, but the responsibility to utilize those devices falls to the individual.Minimum Required Educational Level:Completion of an accredited certificate or associate's degree paramedic programPreferred Educational Level:Completion of an accredited bachelor's or master's degree program in emergency medical technology, business or related fieldRequired Previous Experience:Three years or more experience as a paramedic in a high-volume 911 provider environmentRequired Certifications and/or Registrations:Active, Non-Restricted Paramedic License and/or Certificate in West Virginia or a national registryDriver's License in good standing and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record history as described within the company's Driver Acceptability standardsWest Virginia Mobile Critical Care Paramedic CertificationAdvanced Cardiac Life Support Provider CertificationPre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider Certification or International Trauma Life Support Provider CertificationPediatric Advanced Life Support CertificationPediatric Emergencies for Pre-Hospital Professionals CertificationNeonatal Resuscitation Program CertificationNIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and Hazardous MaterialsPost-Hire Certifications and/or Registrations:Active, Non-Restricted Paramedic License and/or Certificate in West Virginia and appropriate states based on assigned work locationSatisfactory completion of West Virginia Initial Flight Team Member Orientation ProgramCompletion of Specialty Flight Paramedic Certification (C-FP) within two years of hirePhysical Demands:Ability to lift, push, pull and transfer patients of high weights with limited resourcesAbility to twist upper body while moving patients and/or equipmentAbility to stand, walk, climb, balance, reach, stoop, bend, crawl and crouch for extended time periodsAbility to adapt to rapidly changing and potentially extreme environmental conditionsAbility to smell and identify odorsAbility to use close, distant and peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual focusAbility to clearly hear and interpret voice, two-way radio and telephone communicationAbility to successfully complete post-offer and recurrent physical examination including body weightAbility to successfully complete post-offer and recurrent physical agility testPost-Hire/On-Going Personal Assessments:Aviation safety assessmentPost-crash survival knowledge assessmentRandomized annual motor vehicle operator reportQuarterly weigh-in demonstrating weight below 220lbsRandomized drug and alcohol usage testingAnnual clinical competency evaluationPosition Specific Accountabilities:Attends and actively participates in pre-mission briefings and debriefings.Assists pilot, as requested, to enhance safety of self and others.Completes clinical and operational functions in a safe manner, utilizing all available resources, training and judgment.Performs advanced skills as permitted by applicable regulations and the HealthNet Aeromedical Services Chief Medical Officer.Immediately acts on safety concerns and hazardous conditions.In a timely manner, reports safety concerns and hazardous conditions.Effectively completes complex clinical patient assessments.Provides patient stabilization using established clinical care guidelines and skill set.Before, during and after flight operations, liaisons with peers and other professionals to ensure quality delivery of care and operational safety.Ability to select, check and maintain and operate equipment/supplies found on an aircraft.Possesses basic computer skills with flexibility to utilize new software/hardware sets.Keeps current all required licenses, certifications and continuing education programs.Completes all required clinical, operational and performance improvement documentation.Communicates educational needs to the leadership team.Collects statistical data as required.Participates in committee and marketing/outreach activities as required.Follows standards of conduct and procedures developed by HealthNet Aeromedical Services.Follows standards developed by appropriate governmental bodies.Willingness to work beyond the end of scheduled shift, on unscheduled days and at any base location as required allowing for service availability.Willingness to complete patient transports by ground ambulance as required and directed.Performs other duties as assigned by members of the HealthNet Aeromedical Services leadership team.Performance Evaluation Schedule:Annually, based on job family
