Lab – Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, specimen collection, and preparation with care and precision
• Label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain the venipuncture process and specimen collection steps clearly and courteously to patients
• Ensure specimen integrity by following proper storage, packaging, and transportation protocols
• Maintain accurate documentation and update patient information as required
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, including appropriate PPE usage
• Attend annual department trainings and support laboratory operations as needed
• Answer phone calls and communicate laboratory results effectively
• Perform other duties related to specimen collection and laboratory support

Required Skills

• Experience in blood draws, including venipuncture using straight or butterfly needles
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen storage procedures
• Ability to explain laboratory procedures clearly and courteously to patients
• Understanding of specimen transportation and handling protocols
• Familiarity with laboratory regulations, including OSHA and DEP guidelines

Additional Skills & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant phlebotomy certification preferred
• Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory or healthcare environment is preferred
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with every other Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm
• Must be comfortable working with diverse patient populations and demonstrating professionalism at all times
