Speech Language Therapist Ex Ed Pool (2026-27 SY) Be the First to Apply Job Description Exceptional Education Speech Language Therapist Job Summary Speech‑language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Master's Degree in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech‑Language Pathology required. Licenses and Certifications Licenses/Certifications Tennessee Department of Education Teacher’s License (Practitioner/Professional School Services Provider) – Required. Essential Functions Plan and provide evidence‑based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students and adjust intervention strategies based on student performance and best practices in the field of speech pathology. Develop and implement appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths & needs. Administer formal and informal assessments. Observe students in educational environments and select appropriate assessments based on individual student needs. Administer tests according to acceptable procedures and demonstrate knowledge and use of TN DOE eligibility criteria. Complete all required procedural documentation for students (including assessment reports, therapy data collection, IEPs, re‑evaluation documents, progress reporting, and Medicaid documentation). Collaborate/consult with all stakeholders (including general education teachers, exceptional education teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, vision teachers, school counselors, etc.) in the management of speech‑language disorders as they relate to literacy, communication skills, and their impact on learning. Provide coaching and trainings to stakeholders when appropriate. Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need and intensity level for speech‑language services. Serve on student support teams when appropriate and make recommendations for speech and language interventions. If needed, conduct speech, language and hearing screenings. Develop and maintain scheduling for the following: speech and language therapy and instructional services, IEP and eligibility meetings, assessments, collaboration and planning with stakeholders. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in communication & listening skills, analytical skills, effective interpersonal skills, flexibility and organization. Regular in‑person attendance is a fundamental expectation of this position. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Complies with all laws, regulations, policies and standards.
