We are seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to support inpatient pharmacy operations by assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, sterile compounding, dispensing, and inventory management. The ideal candidate will have prior hospital pharmacy experience, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety while ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of medications.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists in preparing, compounding, packaging, and dispensing medications for inpatient care.
• Prepare sterile IV medications using proper aseptic technique and infection control standards.
• Accurately enter prescription orders, patient demographics, allergies, diagnoses, weight, and body surface area into the pharmacy system.
• Support the procurement, storage, inventory, and documentation of controlled substances in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Perform medication order entry, batch processing, and prescription verification under pharmacist supervision.
• Label medications with appropriate dilution, expiration dates, and required documentation.
• Maintain adequate inventory levels by replenishing medication and supply stock.
• Follow formulary and non-formulary medication procedures while ensuring compliance with departmental policies.
• Collaborate with pharmacists and the healthcare team to promote safe and efficient medication management.

 

Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Active Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPHT-TX) license issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy or active Pharmacy Intern license required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification preferred.
• Sterile compounding experience or certification preferred, but not required.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records preferred.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical handling, sterile compounding, medication preparation, and controlled substance management.
• Excellent mathematical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced inpatient pharmacy environment.

 

Important Details:

• 19-week contract position (extensions available)
• Shift is 5 × 8-hour night shifts (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM) 40 hours/week , including weekdays and weekends
• Location is Houston, TX 77094
• Pay Range for Locals: $34 - $38 per hour
• Pay Range for Travelers: $1,700 - $1,720 per week
