Senior Collections Specialist

Hybrid | Professional Services Environment This role will be 1 day in office after an initial training period A top tier law firm in downtown LA is seeking a Senior Collections Specialist to manage a portfolio of client accounts and serve as a primary point of contact for billing and payment-related matters. This role combines collections strategy, client relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration to support healthy cash flow while maintaining exceptional client service. This is not a traditional collections position. The ideal candidate is consultative, proactive, and skilled at building relationships that facilitate timely payment and issue resolution while preserving long-term client partnerships. Position Overview The Senior Collections Specialist will oversee a large portfolio of accounts, proactively engaging clients regarding billing, payment status, and account activity. Working closely with Revenue, Billing, Finance, and firm leadership, this individual will help identify and resolve potential payment issues before they develop into aging concerns. This newly created role offers significant visibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to contribute to the development of best practices and processes within a growing revenue management function. Key Responsibilities Collections & Client Account Management Manage a portfolio of client accounts, ensuring timely payment and reducing aging risk Serve as the primary contact for client billing and payment inquiries Conduct proactive outreach regarding outstanding invoices, payment status, and account questions Build strong working relationships with client finance, accounting, and operations contacts Monitor payment trends and identify potential collection concerns before escalation becomes necessary Document account activity, communications, and follow-up actions within internal systems Collaborate with billing, finance, and accounting teams to resolve invoice disputes, payment issues, and billing inquiries Coordinate resolution of rate questions, invoice revisions, and payment application concerns Assist with account reconciliations and payment research Escalate complex collection matters and recommend appropriate resolution strategies Monitor portfolio performance, aging trends, and collection activity Prepare reports related to accounts receivable, payment patterns, and collection effectiveness Identify opportunities to improve collection workflows and client communication strategies Participate in revenue management initiatives and process enhancement projects Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree preferred 3–5+ years of collections, accounts receivable, revenue management, billing, or client financial services experience Experience in a law firm, professional services, consulting, or similar client-service environment strongly preferred Experience managing a high-volume portfolio of accounts preferred Technical Skills Experience with financial management, billing, or CRM systems Familiarity with legal or professional services billing processes preferred Experience with Elite 3E or similar financial platforms is a plus Strong Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel Core Competencies Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills Professional and diplomatic approach to sensitive financial discussions Strong organizational and time-management abilities Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Ability to balance client service with collection objectives High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information Ideal Candidate Profile Experienced collections professional with a relationship-driven approach Comfortable communicating with senior finance contacts and business leaders Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a focus on preventing issues before they arise Skilled at managing a large portfolio of accounts while maintaining a high level of service Able to navigate complex organizations and coordinate across multiple departments Persistent, accountable, and professional in pursuing outstanding matters Why This Opportunity Stands Out Newly created role with strong organizational support and visibility Opportunity to help shape processes and best practices Significant autonomy and ownership of a client portfolio Exposure to senior leadership and strategic revenue initiatives Blend of collections, client service, relationship management, and financial operations Ideal for candidates seeking a more consultative, strategic alternative to traditional collections positions #J-18808-Ljbffr
