Job Title: Forklift Operator / Materials Handler (2nd Shift) Job Description

This role focuses on safely and efficiently operating stand-up and sit-down forklifts to move, load, unload, and organize materials within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. The Materials Handler supports production by handling inventory, performing basic equipment checks, and following established safety and quality standards during the 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts, Hilo trucks, and other powered industrial trucks to move, lift, stack, tier, and transport products, equipment, and materials throughout the facility.

• Move levers and press pedals to drive industrial trucks and control the movement of lifting apparatus in a safe and controlled manner.

• Load and unload materials onto and off pallets, skids, and other lifting devices, ensuring proper placement and stability of loads.

• Raise and lower lifting devices to stack and unstack materials, maintaining organized and accessible storage areas.

• Inventory materials on the work floor and assist with maintaining accurate material counts to support production and shipping activities.

• Weigh materials or products and record weights on tags, labels, or production schedules as required.

• Use RF scanners and related equipment to track inventory, material movements, and location updates within the facility.

• Ensure all containers are correctly tagged and labeled prior to moving them, following established documentation and identification procedures.

• Perform daily safety and operational checks on forklifts and related equipment, reporting any issues promptly.

• Lubricate trucks, recharge batteries, fill fuel tanks, and replace liquefied gas tanks as needed to keep equipment in proper working condition.

• Operate all machinery and equipment in accordance with company standards, TS and ISO procedures, and safety requirements.

• Use required personal protective equipment, such as gloves, sleeves, and ear plugs, while performing job duties.

• Maintain clean and orderly work areas to support safety, efficiency, and quality standards.

• Arrive on time and maintain regular, reliable attendance for the 2nd shift schedule.

• Assist with departmental operations wherever necessary, supporting production, shipping, and receiving activities.

• Participate in continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and quality.

• Adhere to all TS and ISO standards and procedures applicable to the role.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervision to support overall facility operations.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating stand-up forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.

• Proven experience operating sit-down forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.

• Demonstrated ability to safely drive gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric-powered industrial trucks equipped with lifting devices.

• Strong material handling skills, including loading, unloading, stacking, and organizing materials on pallets, skids, and in storage areas.

• Ability to use RF scanners for inventory tracking and material movement documentation.

• Experience performing basic equipment checks, including safety and operational inspections of forklifts and related machinery.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety procedures, and company standards, including TS and ISO requirements.

• Attention to detail in tagging, labeling, weighing, and recording material information accurately.

• Capability to work reliably on 2nd shift hours.

• Commitment to punctuality and regular attendance.

• Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment with large machinery and presses.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with TS and ISO standards and procedures in a manufacturing setting.

• Experience working in a heavy industrial, metal stamping, or similar production environment.

• Comfort using required personal protective equipment such as gloves, sleeves, and ear plugs.

• Ability to contribute to continuous improvement activities and suggest process enhancements.

• Willingness to assist in various departmental operations as needed to support team goals.

Work Environment

The role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility with several very large metal stamping presses and a workforce of a couple hundred employees. The environment involves working around powered industrial trucks, large machinery, and high-volume material movement. Team members use personal protective equipment, including gloves, sleeves, and ear plugs, in accordance with safety requirements and company standards. Work is performed on 2nd shift, with hours approximately from early afternoon to evening, in a fast-paced, production-focused setting that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to TS and ISO procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
