Maintenance Mechanic

Abington Friends School seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic to join its team of full time, year-round staff. The ideal candidate would be proficient in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing or HVAC. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a stable, friendly work environment.

Essential Functions

Independently and as part of a team, performs a variety of maintenance activities (i.e., plumbing, electrical and HVAC).

• Operates various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, air compressors, blowers, drills, etc.
• Performs regular preventive maintenance and makes repairs within the scope of abilities.
• Assists with building maintenance and repairs, as required.
• Performs cleanup and worksite restoration activities.
• Performs grounds maintenance activities including snow removal
• Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
• Requests supplies as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred as is relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated expert proficiency in one of the skilled trades
• Ability to operate standard maintenance-related equipment.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to discern which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
• Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours to support special school events.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents.
