Overview Family Birth Center Nurse Manager at Mercy San Juan Medical Center. Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital, a member of Commonspirit Health. The Family Birth Center is a Level 3 High Risk Facility within the Sacramento/Northern California region, with 28 beds (12 labor beds, 2 operating rooms, a 2-patient PACU, 2 triage bays, and a 14-bed private Mother-Baby unit). We are Joint Commission Certified for Perinatal Care and follow the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding. As a high risk facility, we receive antepartum patient transfers from across Northern California that may require extended stays until delivery. The Level III NICU adjoining the Family Birth Center supports patients and staff. The center averages 150 deliveries per month, supported by Nurse Shift Managers, a Perinatal Safety Specialist, and a Perinatal Certified Nurse Specialist. An in-house OB hospitalist and a designated OB anesthesiologist support our patients and staff. Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Nursing Manager, you will be a dynamic leader, guiding and empowering our nursing team to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care through continuous growth and operational excellence. Every day, you will lead and mentor Registered Nurses, oversee clinical operations, and advocate for patient and team needs, driving professional development and achieving unit goals. To be successful in this role, you will embody accountability and confidence with superior communication skills for all interactions. You\'ll skillfully navigate challenges, ensuring individual performance and overall unit success. Schedules nursing staff to specific shifts, taking into account past utilization trends. Measures employee performance. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members. Coordinates the activities of the unit during a particular shift and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Provides nursing care to patients on an as needed basis. Job Requirements Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience Minimum of three (3) years related nursing experience AND one year of leadership experience in the specialty.
