Patient Access Specialist

Job Title: Patient Access RepresentativeJob Description This role focuses on welcoming patients, completing accurate registration, and delivering exceptional customer service to support a smooth and efficient patient experience. You will verify patient information, educate patients on their financial responsibilities, and ensure all documentation is complete and ready for billing, while working closely with clinical and support teams in a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities + Greet patients in a professional and compassionate manner and provide exceptional customer service throughout the registration process. + Verify patient identity and collect complete and accurate demographic and insurance information. + Set up and maintain accurate patient accounts to support billing readiness and timely claims processing. + Issue patient armbands and coordinate bedside registration when required to support clinical workflows. + Educate patients on their financial responsibilities, insurance benefits, and available financial resources. + Process orders, manage work queues, and ensure all account documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date. + Obtain all required consents, signatures, and regulatory documentation in line with organisational policies. + Safely secure, document, and track patient valuables when applicable, following facility procedures. + Escort or direct patients and visitors to appropriate locations within the facility to support efficient patient flow. + Collaborate with clinical and support teams to ensure smooth patient throughput and minimise delays. + Follow all applicable federal, state, and organisational regulations, including HIPAA, EMTALA, and CMS standards. + Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times. + Adhere to infection prevention protocols and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). + Participate in emergency preparedness activities and safety initiatives as required. + Accurately enter data into electronic medical record systems and other applications, ensuring high attention to detail. + Multitask effectively and manage multiple work queues in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. + Demonstrate a team-oriented mindset and collaborate across departments to resolve issues and support patient care. + Uphold a high standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and compassionate care in all interactions. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Preferred minimum of an Associate Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration. + Preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in a Patient Access or business office setting. + Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience using Epic applications. + Experience with Epic EMR/EHR systems. + Demonstrated ability to work in a hospital or emergency department registration environment. + Proven ability to manage variable shifts and adapt to changing operational needs. Work Environment This role is based in a hospital setting with primary responsibilities in the Emergency Department and cross-training in main admitting. The work involves regular use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems, including Epic, and requires adherence to infection prevention protocols and proper use of PPE. The full-time day role (1.0 FTE) follows variable day shifts, typically between 06:30 and 20:00, with patterns such as 06:30-15:00, 08:00-16:30, 09:00-17:30, 10:00-18:30, or 11:30-20:00, depending on hospital needs. Most shifts start at 08:00 or 09:00, with occasional later starts, and staff work every other weekend with a weekday off when working weekends. Shift swaps are possible when needed to support work-life balance. The part-time role (.5 FTE) involves evening shifts from 16:30-20:30 on weekdays, alternating working and non-working weekends, with weekend shifts typically from 11:30-15:30 and one full day shift (09:00-17:30). The environment is fast-paced and patient-facing, requiring professional attire appropriate for a hospital setting and a calm, courteous approach to patients, families, and colleagues. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anchorage, AK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
