Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Montana State Hospital provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, performing health-related tasks, and facilitating safe transport to appointments. This role requires strong communication skills, accurate observation and reporting, and the ability to work cooperatively within a healthcare team. The CNA will support residents' hygiene, monitor vital signs, and assist in emergency situations, ensuring compassionate and competent care in a mental health facility setting. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene activities including bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens as required.
• Assist residents during emergency situations as needed.
• Transport residents safely to appointments and provide assistance during transport.
• Communicate effectively and follow instructions accurately both orally and in writing.
• Make accurate observations and report or record resident status and changes.
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience working in a psychiatric facility or healthcare setting.
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions precisely.
• Ability to make accurate observations and maintain records.
• Two years of relevant experience in a psych facility is required.
• Completion of prescreen form and submission of resume and references.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience.
• Experience working in adult psychiatric facilities.
• Strong skills in de-escalation techniques.
• Basic knowledge of personal hygiene care.

Special Considerations:

• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work holidays.
• Experience in mental health settings or geriatric care is highly valued.
• Travel experience of 1-2 years is required.
• Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, psychiatric hospital environment.
• Driver's license and ability to meet travel and assignment requirements may be necessary.

Scheduling:

• Shift is from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
• Open shift availability and float pool experience preferred.
• Shift assignments may vary and require flexibility.
