The UNC Health Oncology Infusion Center in Garner is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic RN with strong clinical skills in oncology and infusion therapy to join their team on a per diem basis. Our Garner office is part of the UNC Health Cancer Care group, a destination for compassionate, patient‑centered oncology care using the latest research and medical technology. It is one of five comprehensive cancer care locations conveniently located across Wake County offering comprehensive oncology services. The clinic is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and is closed on all major holidays and weekends. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attend education programs, use patient education materials, assess readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers, and assess developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance as needed in revision of plan of care, participate in discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team, and communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as required, utilize organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures, organize and prioritize care, and consult with resources in a timely fashion regarding complex care issues or high‑risk discharge planning. Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth, achieve goals within identified time frames, promote intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities, use communication systems effectively, promote cost‑effective care, provide feedback to co‑workers, and promote a safe, clean and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities, include appropriate physical, psychosocial, education and safety needs, synthesize assessment data, anticipate discharge needs, and develop relationships with families that promote advocacy. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, use multidisciplinary resources, communicate planning effectively, identify and address cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Read journals containing applicable studies or articles, and bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements Proficiency in oncology and infusion therapy nursing. Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Understanding of health‑care regulations and quality standards.
