Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist (EX)

This position serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist for expendable (EX) assets/materials for the Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. The role supervises multiple supply series of consumable medical supply/inventory used in the healthcare system, manages the micro-purchase program, and serves as the Commodity Management Division's subject matter expert, acting as an advisor and consultant to the Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO). To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/02/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS-11 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Time‑In‑Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Specialized Experience One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑9 level in the Federal service that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes planning, coordinating and executing an inventory and commodity management program; establishing procedures, overseeing and reviewing physical inventories and supply reconciliations; conducting data/information analysis for acquisition planning; planning and reviewing supply/inventory processes, functions and related systems; and exercising supervisory responsibilities to include planning, assigning, evaluating work and resolving complaints. Education Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. if related that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Combination Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and specialized experience to meet total experience requirements. Physical Requirements The work is active with day‑to‑day management that may prove difficult to administer as a substantial portion of property assets are in geographically dispersed areas, CBOCs, and other agencies within the catchment area which do not report to VHA. Logistics operations are housed in various buildings throughout the medical center as well as off‑site locations and require moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), straight pulling (1-2 hrs), pulling hand over hand (1-2 hrs), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (4‑6 hrs), standing (4‑5 hrs), climbing – use of legs and arms (1-2 hrs), both legs required, operating a motor vehicle, both eyes required, and hearing (aid permitted).
