Job Description

This role combines electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation responsibilities to keep production equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently in a large food-ingredient manufacturing facility. You will perform a wide range of maintenance activities, from troubleshooting PLC systems and electrical issues to conducting instrumentation calibrations, mechanical repairs, and fabrication work. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and organize tasks while collaborating closely with maintenance and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Support and actively participate in a strong safety culture focused on zero injuries and illnesses, consistently following all plant rules and safety requirements, as well as SO and FSSC standards.
• Perform daily assignments of an instrument, mechanical, or electrical nature, as well as special assignments as directed by maintenance leadership and management.
• Train across instrumentation, mechanical, and electrical areas to become fully proficient in troubleshooting issues and performing repair work on production equipment.
• Perform necessary cleaning tasks and maintain good housekeeping practices in all work areas.
• Use the SAP maintenance management program to write notifications, create work orders, locate stock materials, and review equipment history.
• Operate company mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines in a safe and compliant manner.
• Replace electric motors, including checking wiring, alignment, protection devices, and rotation to ensure proper operation.
• Perform instrumentation tasks such as changing out field controllers, probes, automatic valves, and operators.
• Perform instrument calibrations for field instruments, including but not limited to flow meters, temperature probes, pH meters, density meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and other field devices.
• Perform welding and fabrication functions as needed to support maintenance and repair activities.
• Perform lathe and milling operations required to repair or fabricate parts and components.
• Carry out assembly and rigging functions necessary to complete equipment repairs safely and effectively.
• Perform alignment and balancing functions to ensure proper equipment performance and longevity.
• Use specialty hand and shop tools, including volt and amp meters, meggers, DC voltage equipment, hot sticks, static trip test sets, ground fault testers, drills, grinders, cut-off saws, and wrenches.
• Prioritize and organize work to make efficient use of resources, determining appropriate parts, tools, equipment, and manpower for each assignment.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections, safety inspections, and audits as assigned, and provide timely and accurate documentation of findings.
• Troubleshoot PLC systems and diagnose low, medium, and high voltage electrical problems, identifying and implementing appropriate repairs.
• Read, understand, and apply ladder diagrams and general control circuit systems to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Review and verify maintenance documentation for accuracy and completeness as required.
• Communicate the status of daily assignments to maintenance supervisors, maintenance planners, operations leads, engineers, value stream leaders, and maintenance leadership as needed.
• Respond to plant call-ins to troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical problems and assess when additional assistance is required to complete repairs.
• Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by the production and maintenance schedule.

Essential Skills

• Prior instrumentation, mechanical, and electrical maintenance experience.
• Experience maintaining low, medium, and high voltage equipment.
• Experience maintaining analog and digital control systems.
• Demonstrated effective troubleshooting methods and a track record of successful problem resolution.
• Knowledge and practical skill in the use of hand and shop tools.
• Ability to read and understand ladder diagrams and general control circuit systems.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights.
• Ability to learn new tasks and assignments and maintain flexibility to support changing priorities.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays as required and to work overtime when requested.
• Proficiency or willingness to become proficient in using SAP maintenance modules.
• Capability to operate and safely use mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines.
• Proficiency or willingness to become proficient with PLC troubleshooting and AC/DC motors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Instrument Electrical Certification is a plus.
• Working knowledge of SAP maintenance modules is preferred.
• Experience as an electro-mechanical technician, maintenance mechanic, or PLC technician is beneficial.
• Experience working with PLCs, AC/DC motors, and production equipment.
• Comfort using specialty test equipment such as volt and amp meters, meggers, DC voltage equipment, hot sticks, static trip test sets, and ground fault testers.
• Experience with welding, fabrication, lathe work, and milling operations.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to plant rules and quality standards.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large food-ingredient manufacturing facility in Belcamp, MD, with a fairly clean and organized working environment. You will work around production equipment, instrumentation, and electrical systems, using tools such as meters, meggers, DC voltage equipment, hot sticks, static trip test sets, ground fault testers, drills, grinders, cut-off saws, and various hand tools. The role may require working at heights, climbing ladders, and handling loads up to 55 pounds. Work schedules can include weekends, holidays, and overtime based on production and maintenance needs. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed boots, and you will operate within a structured safety and quality framework aligned with SO and FSSC requirements.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $33.67/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
