Patient Support Manager, Market Access (Mid Atlantic)

Patient Support Manager, Market Access (Mid-Atlantic) Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Patient Support Manager (PSM) to join our growing Market Access team. The PSM will coordinate comprehensive care for patients living with sickle cell disease, focusing on improving patient outcomes through education, care coordination, access support, and collaboration with healthcare providers and community resources. The role serves as a key advocate for patients, ensuring timely access to treatment, adherence to care plans, and a high‑quality patient experience. The PSM reports to the regional Senior Manager Patient Access and Reimbursement Services. Responsibilities Support a best‑in‑class patient services program that aligns with Agios’ commercial vision. Build and maintain long‑term relationships with patients, caregivers, families, and HCPs to proactively identify and address barriers to access. Collaborate with Agios field‑based and home‑office teams to ensure a unified approach to patient access and brand strategy. Deliver a positive patient experience by assessing needs and developing action plans that prevent future access barriers, supporting treatment initiation and continuation. Help patients connect with each other and represent Agios at patient meetings and industry conferences. Share reimbursement and related knowledge with customers and internal team members for complex patient case studies. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the access process, health‑care system navigation, insurance plans, payer trends, and internal/external assistance programs. Apply program business rules and work instructions to deliver a consistent and sustainable service experience. Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and comply with all laws, regulations, and Agios policies. Demonstrate strong business acumen, understanding of Agios’ business model, and the role of the patient support manager in commercializing the business. Leverage CRM reporting tools and data analytics to prioritize patient and customer needs. Use a Customer Relationship Management tool proficiently. Approach patient and caregiver interactions with empathy, cultural humility, and an understanding of the lived experience and historical challenges faced by individuals with a rare disease. Apply a trauma‑informed approach to patient engagement. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Health Care, Social Work, Nursing, or related field preferred. Minimum five (5) years of experience directly related to patient service or market access (e.g., case management) in the healthcare or pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Ultra‑rare disease experience is a plus. Knowledge of private payer, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid structure, systems, and reimbursement process. Experience with benefit verification and prior authorization process for oral products. Proficiency with a Customer Relationship Management system, such as Salesforce.com. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities. Experience working in cross‑functional teams and influencing without authority. Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional listening, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. May require up to 15% travel within the U.S. Preferred Qualifications Experience with rare, ultra‑rare, or genetic diseases. Located in the Central region. Work Location Location‑agnostic: role can be fully remote in the U.S. or hybrid with Cambridge headquarters. Hybrid schedules typically involve less than three days onsite per week. Remote employees may be required to attend company‑sponsored events or meetings, including occasional travel for company events. Benefits Professional development opportunities.
