Machine Operator (Sublimation - Afternoons) Job

Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Sublimation Operator is responsible for the proper use and care of the sublimation oven and vacuum system, ensuring appropriate settings for the oven and vacuum system, and maintaining a quality product. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Duties: Commit to and follow the facility Mission, Vision and Values that support the AWI Operating Principles as an individual and team. Attend and participate in all required company training programs.

Sublimation Duties: Operate all sublimation equipment including the oven, vacuum system, and bagging areas. Operate machinery or stations as instructed by the Team Leader to meet scheduled demands. Support the development of standard recipes for various parts or films. Ensure standard recipes are working as intended and verify that the settings do not need adjustments to improve the quality of the product or efficiency of the operation. Reduce film waste by learning the details on how the equipment functions and affects the product. Learn the effect of the vacuum on the products and determine the need for inserts to prevent the vacuum from distorting the parts. Help the fabrication team design and develop new inserts as needed. Make appropriate running decisions to prevent excessive defects and/or downtime. Develop a knowledge of powder coating and how it can affect the sublimated product. Keep accurate records of production, waste, quality checks undertaken.

Participates in safety related events/trainings/processes. Conform to all company policies and procedures. Maintain clean and organized work area. Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Report any safety/environmental incidents.

Quality: Maintain a high level of customer focus in producing quality products and services that do not sacrifice the safety of others, oneself, nor the environment. Ensure that the standards for quality, output, safety etc. are adhered to and improved upon. Troubleshoot issues that are within your knowledge and control. Decide quickly to contact more resources for issues outside of your knowledge and control. Check product quality using visual standards and any quality devices as needed. Monitor aspects of the oven/vacuum that could affect the product quality using devices, standard work, and knowledge of the process. Understand when a film or powder coated panel is of standard quality or of good quality vs when there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Create and/or improve upon standard work processes including but not limited to: Start Up Shut Down While Running Change Overs Troubleshooting Downday Cost Looks for projects or methods to reduce cost without sacrificing the quality of the parts. Drives waste out of operation.

Travel: Minimal; less than 5%

Prior manufacturing, assembly, material movement, or powder coating operations experience preferred. Ability to learn and understand the PLC operating screen and data output screens. Understand your internal customer base (Assembly, and Crating). Be customer oriented; possess the ability to react to the customers' needs while following company procedures. Direct knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Johnstown plant products and processes is preferred. Knowledge of metal manufacturing materials, fabrication processes, and machinery preferred. Must be flexible and be able to respond with a positive attitude to changing demands and conditions. Must be able to effectively communicate with many areas of the plant/company during meetings, presentations, and various conversations on and off the floor. Attention to detail and understand/adjusting to minor detail changes. Ability to learn how to operate a forklift and other company vehicles.

Work Environment: Plant Environment This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Basic PPE required: safety glasses, earplugs, and steel toe/composite boots. Specific PPE & training will be provided for activities requiring additional accommodation.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required.
