General Description:

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the agency through accurate accounting, financial reporting, grant tracking, and regulatory compliance, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close functions. The Accountant monitors restricted and unrestricted funding, prepares financial statements and cash flow reports, assists with budgeting and audits, and ensures compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, and federal and state regulations. This role works collaboratively with leadership and program staff to maintain strong internal controls, support financial decision-making, and uphold the organization's financial integrity. The core responsibilities are fiscal management, compliance, and strategic support.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Preferred 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in nonprofit accounting and grant management strongly preferred
• Sage Intacct platform experience preferred but not required

• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Proficiency with accounting systems and automated financial tools

• Ability to balance responsive service with strong internal controls
• Reliable self-starter with excellent time management and follow-through

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, and state and federal regulations.
• Prepare journal entries and support monthly and year-end close processes.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, investment, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Validate the accuracy of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and invoicing activities.
• Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding, grant allocations, and grant expenditure compliance reporting.
• Prepare accurate financial statements, cash flow projections, and supporting financial analyses for management.
• Maintain the chart of accounts and support annual budgeting and financial reporting.
• Assist with annual independent audits, audit workpapers, state filings, and IRS Form 990 preparation.
• Ensure accurate financial recordkeeping, including journals, ledgers, bank statements, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with department Directors to monitor budgets, analyze variances, and support financial decision-making.
• Work with Finance Director on monthly, quarterly, year-end reporting
• Support the consistent application of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Provide backup support for payroll and accounts payable functions as needed.
• Other duties as assigned
