The Development Officer Senior supports the mission of Rio Salado College by fundraising and assisting with alumni engagement efforts that strengthen institutional support and student success. This role focuses on cultivating donor relationships, supporting fundraising initiatives, and coordinating alumni engagement activities in alignment with college and district priorities. Working closely with the Marketing and Public Relations (PR)/Communications team, the Development Officer helps implement development programs, supports donor stewardship efforts, and contributes to building meaningful, long-term connections between alumni, donors, and the college. This position serves as a key collaborator with Foundation partners and internal stakeholders to support fundraising goals and alumni engagement activities. Key Responsibilities: Fundraising and Development:
- Support the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective and existing donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Implement fundraising initiatives to achieve development goals.
- Assist in preparing and submitting compelling funding concepts/proposals, development decks/presentations, and reports to secure funding from private and public sources.
- Collaborate with Foundation representatives to align fundraising activities with institutional priorities and donor expectations.
- Maintain accurate donor records in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) (Raiser's Edge, Salesforce or similar systems), tracking progress and engagement metrics to inform strategy and reporting. Alumni Relations:
- Coordinate and support alumni-focused events and activities, including networking opportunities, recognition efforts, and engagement campaigns.
- Assist with alumni communications and outreach in partnership with PR and Communications.
- Support the maintenance of alumni records, tracking engagement, career milestones, and participation.
- Encourage alumni involvement in mentorship, volunteer, and career-related opportunities. Collaboration and Program Support:
- Represents the college on the District-wide Resource Development Council, collaborating with the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation to align development efforts with district-wide priorities and initiatives.
- Work closely with the Marketing and PR/Communications teams to integrate alumni engagement strategies into existing efforts and local/national campaigns.
- Partner with academic departments and college leadership to support the identification of identify funding priorities in partnership with leadership.
- Serve as the liaison between donors, alumni, and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment and effective communication across initiatives. Stewardship and Reporting:
- Support donor and alumni stewardship activities, including acknowledgments, recognition efforts, and impact reporting.
- Report on the impact of contributions and alumni engagement efforts to build trust and inspire continued support. Program Growth and Administration:
- Analyze donor and alumni engagement data to identify trends and support continuous improvement.
- Track expenses and support budget planning for fundraising and alumni-related activities. Essential Functions
40% - Fundraising and Donor Cultivation: The Development Officer Senior supports fundraising and donor cultivation efforts by conducting prospect research, assisting with donor outreach, and helping maintain relationships that encourage ongoing engagement and giving. This includes supporting annual and mid-level giving initiatives, assisting with donor stewardship activities, maintaining donor contact records, and helping implement acknowledgment, recognition, and impact reporting processes. The position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support development programs and initiatives that contribute to charitable giving and donor engagement, in alignment with established strategies and priorities. 30% - Alumni Relations: This position supports alumni engagement activities that strengthen donor pipelines, stewardship and long-term institutional affinity. It assists with alumni engagement programs that encourage continued connection to the college, such as mentorship, volunteer, and career-related initiatives. The Development Officer works in partnership with the PR and Communications team to support alumni communications and ensure alignment with broader marketing and engagement efforts. 10% - Collaboration and Program Support: The Development Officer Senior fundraises and support alumni engagement initiatives by working collaboratively with internal teams, Foundation partners, and other stakeholders. This includes supporting cross-functional coordination, assisting with initiative execution, and helping identify opportunities for donor and alumni engagement. The role may participate in committees or working groups related to development and alumni efforts, as appropriate. 10% - Operations and Reporting: This role maintains and updates donor and alumni records in the database, ensuring accuracy of contact information, engagement activity, and contribution data. It assists with the preparation of proposals, reports, correspondence, and materials used for donor and alumni engagement and stewardship. The Development Officer supports tracking and reporting efforts to inform leadership and improve program effectiveness. 10% - Other Duties: The Development Officer performs other duties as assigned to support the college's fundraising and alumni engagement goals, ensuring flexibility in meeting organizational needs. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in marketing, communications or related field and four (4) years of experience performing the full range of fundraising/development activities such as providing program coordination and development support in assigned development area. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Special Requirements Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver's License may be required for some assignments. Desired Qualifications
A. Advanced Degree: A Master's degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
B. Fundraising Experience: Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in fundraising or development, with a proven track record of securing gifts, planned giving, or endowments.
C. Alumni Relations Expertise: Demonstrated experience in planning and executing alumni engagement programs.
D. Database Management Skills: Proficiency in donor and alumni CRM platforms (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, or similar systems) with a strong ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights.
E. Strategic Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing grant proposals, donor reports, and alumni communications materials. (Application materials will be reviewed in this area)
F. Collaboration and Team Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and coordinate volunteers to achieve program goals.
G. Higher Education Experience: Familiarity with fundraising and alumni relations in a higher education setting, particularly at community colleges or institutions serving non-traditional student populations.
H. One (1) year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years Special Working Conditions
