Senior Counsel: Operations and Pharmacy Legal

Senior Counsel role supporting AbbVie's operations and specialty pharmacy functions in Waltham, MA. Provides strategic legal guidance on regulatory compliance, pharmacy licensure, controlled substance management, and commercial contracts while partnering with cross-functional business teams.
Responsibilities
- Advise operations and specialty pharmacy teams on federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, and controlled substance management
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts; ensure legal compliance with company objectives
- Support pharmacy licensure applications, renewals, and compliance audits across jurisdictions
- Develop and maintain pharmacy policies, standard operating procedures, and training materials
- Manage regulatory risk and resolve disputes through collaboration with internal and external partners
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from accredited law school; active law license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 5+ years in-house pharmaceutical counsel, law firm life sciences practice, or government legal experience
- Experience advising on pharmacy-related legal matters
- Knowledge of DEA and state pharmacy regulations for controlled substances
- Ability to assess legal risk and translate regulatory complexity into business guidance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
