Refrigeration Technician (Temp-to-Perm)Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PMSchedules are subject to change based on business needs.Pay Rate: Up to $35/hourPosition Type: Temp-to-PermInterview Process: In-Person InterviewsPosition SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Refrigeration Technician to support the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of industrial refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, and facility systems within a large-scale distribution environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, freezer and cooler equipment, HVAC systems, and related facility infrastructure while maintaining compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory standards.The ideal candidate will have strong industrial HVAC/R experience, knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, electrical troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to workplace safety. This position offers the opportunity to transition into a permanent role with a growing organization.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRefrigeration & HVAC SystemsPerform preventive maintenance and inspections on industrial refrigeration systems ranging from 50 ton to 3,000 ton.Monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, fans, and control systems.Inspect and maintain screw and reciprocating compressors.Perform electrical troubleshooting on refrigeration and HVAC equipment.Monitor refrigerant systems for ammonia leaks and ensure corrective action is taken as needed.Check, drain, and refill oil levels; perform oil analysis and change filters as required.Inspect and replace belts, motors, contactors, controls, and other system components.Monitor freezer and cooler temperatures to ensure product integrity.Assist with energy management initiatives and recommend efficiency improvements.Electrical & ControlsTroubleshoot and repair high and low voltage electrical systems.Work with PLC and PC-based refrigeration control systems.Monitor alarm systems and equipment operating conditions.Perform minor electrical repairs and support facility automation systems.Maintenance & Facility SupportLog maintenance activities, labor, and materials in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).Inspect water treatment systems and maintain proper chemical levels.Evaluate equipment performance and report maintenance concerns.Perform general facility maintenance including light plumbing, carpentry, painting, lighting repairs, and grounds maintenance.Maintain inventory of replacement parts and equipment.Keep all tools and equipment clean, organized, and in safe working condition.Safety & ComplianceFollow all OSHA, EPA, IIAR, ASHRAE, ASME, and company safety standards.Conduct required inspections, audits, and documentation for PSM, ePSM, food safety, and regulatory compliance.Respond to emergency situations involving refrigeration, HVAC, or facility systems.Participate in the on-call maintenance program as assigned.Maintain refrigeration machine rooms and work areas in a clean and safe condition.Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety protocols.QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.HVAC/R Technical School training preferred.ExperienceMinimum 4 years of industrial HVAC/R maintenance or refrigeration experience required.Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems (R717) strongly preferred.Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting industrial refrigeration equipment.Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.Certifications & LicensesValid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.Universal EPA Certification required.RETA Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) preferred.Ability to obtain RETA Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification within 6 months of employment.HAZWOPER 24-Hour Training, Respirator Fit Test, and Physical required.Ability to obtain Powered Industrial Equipment Certification within 3 months of employment.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong understanding of industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems.Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration operations and safety procedures.Ability to read blueprints, schematics, operating manuals, and technical drawings.Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and control systems.Working knowledge of PLC controls and refrigeration monitoring systems.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and CMMS software.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Physical RequirementsRegularly stand, walk, climb, balance, reach, bend, and use hands for equipment maintenance and repairs.Frequently work in freezer, cooler, rooftop, mechanical room, and industrial environments.Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds occasionally.Must be able to wear a respirator and pass all required fit testing.Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated work areas when needed.Work EnvironmentExposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.Exposure to ammonia, chemicals, dust, grease, noise, and mechanical equipment.Work around high-voltage electrical systems and rotating machinery.Occasional work in confined spaces and elevated locations.May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation as business needs require.CompensationPay Rate: Up to $35 per hourThis is a Temp-to-Perm opportunity offering long-term career growth for qualified refrigeration and HVAC professionals.
