Production Planner

Position Summary

The Production Planner develops, maintains, communicates, and adjusts executable production priorities and schedules for the assigned PMG manufacturing operation. The role coordinates customer demand, work orders, material readiness, tooling, outside processing, capacity, and internal workflow so production teams have clear priorities and leadership has timely visibility to risks that may affect delivery commitments.

The Production Planner works closely with Production, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Warehouse and Shipping, Quality, Engineering, Sales and Customer Service, and site leadership. The role is expected to maintain accurate business system planning data, monitor work in process, communicate expedites and constraints, and support assigned special processes or Supply Chain projects.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain production schedules and priorities using customer requirements, due dates, routings, backlog, available capacity, material readiness, tooling, quality status, and operating priorities.
• Create, release, update, and monitor work orders and planning information in the approved business system; keep dates, status, priorities, and related data accurate.
• Monitor open orders, work in process, work-center loading, past-due work, and production progress to identify delays, bottlenecks, or recovery needs early.
• Identify jobs requiring expedited handling and communicate urgency, priority, status, and expected turnaround to Production, Supply Chain, Warehouse and Shipping, Quality, and Sales and Customer Service as appropriate.
• Adjust or recommend schedule changes when material, quality, equipment, staffing, tooling, capacity, or customer requirements change.
• Review material, component, tooling, outside-process, and inventory readiness; coordinate follow-up with Purchasing, Warehouse and Shipping, Quality, Engineering, or suppliers as assigned.
• Coordinate with Production supervisors and leads to confirm schedules are executable and to resolve sequencing, capacity, or workflow concerns.
• Maintain planning reports and daily and weekly meeting inputs, including work in process, expedites, past-due work, delivery expectations, shortages, and other assigned metrics.
• Provide timely updates to the Production Planner Manager and affected stakeholders regarding schedule status, risks, constraints, and recovery actions.
• Maintain accurate planning and inventory-related data and support standard work, documentation, and continuous-improvement activities.
• Support assigned tooling, outside processing, vendor pickup and delivery, or purchase-order coordination when those activities are part of the approved planning assignment.
• Perform other related planning and Supply Chain duties as assigned to support changing business and operational needs.

Additional Responsibilities That May Apply by Assignment

• Own or support tooling procurement, quoting, purchase-order coordination, and tooling availability where assigned by Supply Chain leadership.
• Coordinate specialized production work when assigned, including scheduling, supplier coordination, planned buffer inventory, and required reporting.
• Coordinate specialized outside-processing activity, including material release, purchase-order support, offsite inventory tracking, and reconciliation.
• Maintain customer-specific expedite reports, program reports, or end-of-month delivery and end-of-month sales and delivery reporting when assigned.
• Support planned buffer inventory, offsite inventory, or special-project planning requirements that are unique to the site or product family.

Required Capabilities

• Production scheduling and work-order management using business system tools.
• Ability to evaluate material, capacity, tooling, quality, and workflow constraints and communicate their impact on production priorities.
• Strong Excel and reporting skills for work in process, expedites, shortages, lead times, backlog, and operational metrics.
• Accurate documentation and business system data maintenance.
• Clear communication, prioritization, follow-through, and escalation across multiple functions.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in production planning, production control, materials, inventory, manufacturing operations, or a closely related role.
• Experience using business systems to manage work orders, priorities, material status, and planning information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to maintain accurate operational reports and documentation.
• Strong organization, time management, problem solving, and communication skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Two to five or more years of manufacturing planning or related supply-chain experience.
• Aerospace, fastener, machining, forging, semiconductor, or other regulated manufacturing experience.
• Experience with Epicor or another business system; recognized planning certification is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position combines office and manufacturing-floor work and requires regular computer use, movement through active production and warehouse areas, and compliance with site safety and personal protective equipment requirements. Human Resources and the hiring leader will confirm schedule, travel, lifting, and other site-specific requirements.
