Cardiac OR Surgical Technologist

Job Duties

The Adult Cardiac OR provides care for a diverse patient population, including those undergoing various procedures such as CABGs, TAVIs, and treatments for heart failure including VADs, ECMOs, artificial hearts, and heart transplants. The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the surgical team, focusing on the following responsibilities:

• Preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assisting the surgical team from the scrub position during operations.
• Ensuring proper care and handling of surgical instruments.
• Facilitating room turnover between surgical cases.
• Maintaining sterile technique and safe handling of sharps.
• Performing surgical counts in accordance with hospital policy.
• Demonstrating proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse.

Job Requirements

• NBSTSA Certification or at least one year of Surgical Technologist experience within a healthcare facility in the four years prior to January 2015.
• A minimum of two years of recent experience in a cardiac OR.
• Ability to scrub and circulate during surgical procedures.

Certification(s)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
