Description

Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of electrical systems at a journeymen level knowledge of the techniques, methods and procedures used to provide electrical services including electrical controls and switch gear, breakers, electrical rotating equipment, wiring raceways and devices, busways and motor control panels; heating, ventilation, air conditioning; facilities, building, grounds, equipment, and all related services and systems including generators; uses and maintains various types of electrical and electronic equipment; performs a range of varied and non-routine tasks; solves problems independently and develops regular contact with individuals in other work groups or external vendors to obtain, clarify or give facts or information. Reports to the Director of Water Reclamation.

Essential Job Functions

• Inspects equipment for electrical malfunctions, maintenance needs, and breakage, and performs necessary maintenance and/or repairs.
• Identifying, analyzing, troubleshooting, and assisting with repairs of equipment and electrical faults.
• Diagnose problems and repairs of malfunctioning equipment at all City building facilities and grounds.
• Diagnose problems and repairs of malfunctioning equipment at the wastewater treatment plant; maintains electrical systems at pump stations, performs routine maintenance as scheduled and repairs as necessary; maintains telemetry units at the treatment plant. Plans, designs, and installs new and upgrades old electrical systems.
• Knowledge of pulling electrical cables, running conduits, terminating various types of panels, bending conduit, threading pipe, etc.
• Exercise the proper use of wiring techniques for 12 volt DC, 24 volt DC, 120 volt DC, 120 volt AC, 240 volt AC, 480 volt AC, 600 volt AC and 13.8 kV single and three-phase.
• Maintains, repairs, adjusts, operates and tests low and high voltage electrical circuits and systems for optimum efficiency.
• Tests and analyzes data to effect proper maintenance or adjustments to low and high voltage systems, including but not limited to cranes, hoists, lighting, distribution systems and fire alarms.
• Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs elevator controls systems and printed circuit controls.
• Maintains and uses specialized electronic test equipment in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Understand the use of hand and power tools to do electrical repair work; Use electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices and shop tools such as: resistance soldering units, multimeters, scopes, probes, generators, counters, potting equipment, ovens, molds, meggers, etc.
• Use proper grounding techniques.
• Perform proper and safe cable routing.
• Determine the appropriate level of PPE needed for a specific assigned task. Wear job/task related/required PPE: i.e. safety shoes, hearing / eye protection, hard hat, respirators, gloves, fall protection etc.
• Work from verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, documents, vendor manuals, and applicable national, state and municipal specifications and codes.
• Perform functional and/or operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified equipment.
• Transport mobile power generators, when required.
• Maintain logs, charts, graphs, and records, as required.
• Ensures that all public facilities and areas conform to the accessibility codes.
• Ensures that all facilities and areas are kept up to a desirable quality standard of appearance.
• Assists in the development and monitoring of all outside maintenance contracts and agreements with private or volunteer organizations.
• Develops cooperation between facilities maintenance and other departments, i.e. Public Works, Public Safety, Stormwater, Water Rec, Recreation, etc., to assist in completion of City projects.

Additional Job Functions

• Performs advanced installation and maintains electrical systems throughout the City facilities to include but not limited to electrical troubleshooting; designing/installation of replacement and new services; performing thermal testing to locate potential overloads; fixture changes; circuit location mapping; ability to pull permits for assigned duties; installation and service of switching gear; preventative maintenance and installation of building backup generator systems; determining power loads and establish/maintain electrical preventative program.
• Performs manual labor and related tasks including but not limited to trenching ditches, carpentry, painting, updating work logs, orders and/or recommends replacement parts and equipment as needed to supervisor, and handling other administrative duties as needed. This classification may include managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities.
• Performs other related work as required and collaborates with Utility Electrician, Utility Mechanics and Treatment Plant Operators to perform skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of electrical instruments and equipment at the City wastewater plants and pump stations. Work involves inspecting for and repairing malfunctions and identifying causes of malfunctions or breakdowns.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a Journeyman Electrician License or higher issued by the State of Florida. In the absence of a license, must have minimum number of hours required by the State in either electrical work or classroom instruction to obtain the license. 4 years experience in Electrical field with knowledge of current codes.

Special Requirements

Trains, coordinates and reviews the work of others under an established apprenticeship program. Arc Flash and Basic Electrical Safety Training as provided. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
