Job Title Patient Care Associate-7W Med/Surg-Full Time Night 11pm-7:15am-MSM Overview As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient‑focused care within the Specialty Service. The role supports the registered nurse in activities such as assisting patients with activities of daily living, collecting specimens, performing procedures, maintaining a safe clean environment, and other duties as needed. Responsibilities Perform and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and pain scale ratings. Collect specimens and perform clinical procedures such as blood glucose, venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, post‑mortem care, and maintenance of skin integrity. Assist registered nurses with procedure setup and patient care. Assist patients with activities of daily living—including feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulation, and mobility—within safe, clean, and functional environments. Assist with dietary functions: delivering and collecting patient trays, providing menus, mixing nutritional supplements, and reporting changes in eating patterns to RN/Dietitian. Maintain a safe, clean environment by removing trash, performing bed‑stripping, and addressing equipment and plant problems. Provide close observation or on‑to‑one observation for patients at risk of safety, elopement, or suicide prevention. Maintain isolation status as directed by an RN and perform hourly care checks or rounding with emphasis on toileting needs, comfort, positioning, and pain awareness. Utilize the Vocera system/Mount Sinai phone per sign‑in/sign‑out protocol. Perform other duties as assigned, including generating reports and responding to call systems. Respect and promote cultural diversity and inclusiveness in patient care. Respond to visitors and phone calls promptly and courteously, escort visitors as needed, and provide information as appropriate. Transport patients using stretchers or wheelchairs and assist with emergency transport and bed making. Handle communication and documentation including updates to the communication board, discharge log, medical records, and admission/transfer/discharge systems. Maintain supplies, equipment, and overall unit organization. Participate in department performance improvement activities and staff development. Maintain patient and employee confidentiality and observe healthcare compliance policies. Meet regulatory, licensure, and annual health assessment requirements. Demonstrate professional, courteous, and respectful attitudes toward patients, families, staff, and community. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Certificate of completion of a medical assistant/patient care assistant program (or equivalent) with skills in venipuncture and EKG. Three to nine months of healthcare experience (preferred). Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams. Documentation of medical assistant/patient care associate training. Ability to set priorities, problem‑solve, exercise proper judgment in difficult situations, and remain flexible. Proficient oral and written communication in English. Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks within the assigned area. American Heart Association Heartsaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $27.8502 - $29.8773 hourly. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need.
