Physical Plant Maintenance/Trades Mechanic II

Mission The mission of Maintenance & Operations is to provide excellence in transportation by keeping the state's road transportation network in a state of good repair through the careful and consistent application of personnel, equipment and financial resources. Summary Statement This position must be available to work overtime as needed, and during storm events and other emergency events on short notice, and in some cases, no advance notice. Career Ladder Upon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level. Essential Functions Renovates equipment, builds partitions, furniture and structures to extend usage and/or meet specific needs. Performs maintenance in one or more trade fields including plumbing, carpentry, painting and assists in complex or large-scale projects. Inspects facilities, makes basic repairs to systems, structures and equipment and is engaged in preventative maintenance program. Inspects, maintains and repairs HVAC operation, water supply, pumps, wells, sanitary systems, compressors, treatment and disposal plants. May perform maintenance and preventative maintenance of vehicles and operate heavy equipment. Maintains records of materials, jobs, and other pertinent information. May perform highway lighting or drawbridge maintenance. Job Requirements Six months experience in operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, hand and power tools used in trade fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC. Six months experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC. Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings. Knowledge of record keeping. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). Conditions of Hire Must possess a valid CDL Class A or B drivers license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial 90‑day probationary period. Pre‑employment drug testing required. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E‑Verify. Medical exam compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations for holding a commercial driver’s license, unless waived. Must not have incurred four or more serious traffic violations during the previous three years as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Code. Benefits Comprehensive benefit package available.
