X-Ray Technologist - PRN

SUMMARY

The X-Ray Technician is responsible for performing high-quality radiographic imaging to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The technician ensures the safe use of radiologic equipment, upholds industry compliance standards, and provides exceptional patient care during imaging procedures. This role also requires collaboration with healthcare professionals and contributions to overall clinical efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

• Radiographic Imaging: Operate advanced X-ray and radiographic equipment to produce clear and accurate diagnostic images. Perform imaging for specific musculoskeletal regions, including spine, joints, and limbs. Adjust imaging techniques based on individual patient conditions and physician instructions.
• Patient Preparation and Care: Verify patient information and medical history to ensure proper imaging procedures. Explain procedures clearly to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation. Assist patients in positioning comfortably while adhering to safety guidelines.
• Compliance and Safety: Follow all federal and state regulations related to radiologic imaging and radiation exposure. Implement radiation protection measures, including shielding for patients and staff. Monitor equipment regularly to ensure functionality and report maintenance needs.
• Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate with orthopedic physicians to interpret and evaluate imaging results. Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including imaging notes and reports. Support clinical staff with administrative or patient scheduling duties, when necessary.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with advancements in radiologic technology and orthopedic imaging practices. Participate in professional development activities and training sessions.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in radiology, preferably in an orthopedic or clinical setting. Thorough knowledge of radiographic imaging techniques, particularly for orthopedic conditions. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and radiologic software systems. Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle a variety of tasks efficiently.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
• Licensure: State radiologic technologist license, if applicable.
• Knowledge of orthopedic anatomy is highly desirable.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Technical Proficiency: Operate and troubleshoot X-ray equipment and imaging software. Understand radiologic techniques and protocols for orthopedic imaging.
• Foundational: Basic computer skills, operating a computer and navigating the operating system (e.g., opening applications, managing files)
• Patient Interaction: Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients of all age groups. Anticipate and address patient concerns during imaging procedures.
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals.
• Provide support to physicians in analyzing diagnostic results.
• Attention to Detail: Ensure precision in imaging and maintain accurate documentation. Adhere to strict compliance and regulatory standards in all tasks.
• Adaptability: Adjust to changing priorities and handle challenging situations calmly. Stay current on industry updates and integrate new practices into workflows.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
• Speaking: Must be able to clearly communicate in person and over the telephone.
• Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient (if applicable) and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
• Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability includes sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service needed. Requires frequent bending, reaching and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling.

WORK ENVIORNMENT

While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to risk of infectious diseases and bodily fluids when interacting with patients and/or family members. The employee may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typical of a physician's office.
