The Psychology & Psychiatry Program is seeking a part-time (15-20 hours/week) Consulting Psychologist in the Cook or Northern Cook region.

Consulting Psychologists provide consultation and clinical recommendations to caseworkers and supervisors regarding assessments, treatment needs, and placement decisions for youth in care and their family members. Consulting Psychologists perform any of the following duties as required or assigned:

• Review referral requests to determine the appropriateness of psychological, neuropsychological, and parenting assessments;
• Assist staff in the use and interpretation of psychological and psychiatric reports;
• Attend and provide consultation during staffings for youth; refer to and monitor the provision of mental health services;
• Participate in assigned meetings and trainings;
• Conduct secure care assessments and provide on-site presence in DCFS Field Offices.

Consulting Psychologists also provide regionally based presentations that assist in advancing the knowledge and skill base of existing staff, new hires, supervisors, foster parents, and birth parents.

Consulting Psychologists will also have the opportunity to work with the Psychology & Psychiatry Program Director in ongoing planning and program development; identifying and working with subject matter experts in the development or revision of existing programs, curricula, or policy; participate in a variety of sub-committees and workgroups; and attend and participate in monthly supervision meetings. In an effort to keep current in the field, Consultants will interact with various constituencies in the psychology, psychiatry, trauma, and child welfare communities, including social workers, attorneys, court personnel, school counselors, hospital social service departments, foster parent groups, and others.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates for the position will have earned a Psy.D. or Ph.D., hold a valid Illinois license as a Clinical Psychologist, and carry current malpractice insurance. At least 5 years of clinical experience with children and adolescents and experience in consulting are preferred. Requires specific child welfare knowledge and understanding of the psychological effects of childhood and complex trauma. Experience in staff training, working with diverse client populations, interpersonal and assessment skills, and working independently is required.

Note: These positions are independent contractor positions with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). They are managed through the DCFS Psychology and Psychiatry Program, which is funded through a contract with Northern Illinois University.
