Hybrid Utility Designer 2

Locations: Columbus, OH Additional Locations: Central and Southern Ohio Work Site: Hybrid Position Overview The Hybrid Utility Designer 2 is responsible for planning, designing, verifying locations, inspecting, or otherwise capturing information related to utility and telecommunication assets. This junior-level role involves learning and applying technical skills under supervision, using routine procedures to address common challenges. Approximately 20% of the role will require field work in Central and Southern Ohio, with the remaining design work as remote. A company vehicle or travel reimbursement will be provided. Job Duties Responsibilities: Organize assigned proposals using client software Communicate with homeowners/customers in the AES footprint to schedule on-site meetings and determine the scope of work Maintain records of utility infrastructure. Identify and mitigate safety risks. Design aerial and underground utilities, ensuring compliance with AES engineering standards Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness and safety. Design engineering prints and cost estimates using clientprovided software Collaborate with project stakeholders for optimal design solutions. Maintain vehicle and equipment, ensuring operational readiness. Respond to emergencies safely and promptly. Report to supervisors accurately and promptly. Participate in training events at the AES building in Dayton, OH. Travel occasionally for on-site duties (1-3 days a week depending on workload). Perform other assigned duties and adhere to company policies. Qualifications Required 2-4 years prior electric utility experience, preferably in low voltage distribution. High-school diploma with electric utility or telecommunications industry experience OR a Bachelor's degree in engineering (or related technical field) with no prior industry experience. Obtain and maintain professional certificates and licenses commensurate with project requirements. Ability to read, understand and apply engineering construction standards to design projects. Demonstrate proficiency in CAD/Outside Plant Engineering design software, PLA software, Microsoft Office applications, Google Workspace, and data entry. Strong communication skills including written and verbal. Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Perform basic arithmetic computations. Apply understanding to carry out detailed instructions. Identify, address, and resolve problems involving multiple variables and varied situations. State-issued driver's license and a personal vehicle for on-site travel. Residence in Southwest or Central Ohio (Cinncinatti, Dayton, Columbus). Must live within a 45-minute drive of Dayton, OH. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university. Electric hazard identification, electric equipment identification, or communication equipment identification capability.
