Responsibilities Job Summary: This full‑time position is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of professional medical care within their assigned units. The role ensures that professional medical services to all patients are coordinated and rendered in an appropriate and timely manner, provides in‑service training for hospital staff, and actively participates in performance measurement and improvement. Policy Development: Acts in multidisciplinary teams to develop, maintain, and review all departmental policies and procedures related to patient care and quality improvement, reviews hospital administration policies, oversees the program balanced scorecard, and collaborates on bed‑assignment and resource‑utilization protocols. Administrative: Reviews credentials, appoints and renews physicians in the Intensivist Panel, ensures adequate coverage through daily schedules, handles performance issues, resolves conflicts, participates in committee work, maintains regulatory compliance, and collaborates on equipment selection, budgeting, and cost‑savings initiatives. Clinical Care: Provides overall clinical supervision and medical direction, assists triage in Telemetry, resolves patient‑care disputes, determines attending designations, reviews records for quality, and recommends removal of physicians when necessary to protect patient safety. Quality Enhancement: Partners with hospital staff to monitor and evaluate program quality improvement, chairs morbidity and mortality conferences, reviews avoidable day reports, works with nurse managers and directors to resolve QRM and utilization issues, and ensures compliance with indirectly contracted intensivists. Educational: Leads educational programs for Telemetry and allied health staff, completes 25 hours of continuing medical education annually, ensures in‑house intensivists complete 16 hours, coordinates community outreach, and documents bedside rounds and in‑service education. Research: Oversees, coordinates, and facilitates research projects and encourages research activities to improve quality of care. Organizational Relationship: Participates in semiannual performance evaluations, coordinates goals with committees, and may be assisted by a part‑time Associate Medical Director at other locations. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Doctorate M.D. or D.O. Required Experience 3 years of related experience and/or direct hospitalist clinical or acute care experience. Required Experience in medical staff leadership, such as committee chairperson or medical staff officer. Required Unsupervised privileges at current or previous institution with full ventilator privileges during initial provisional year. Preferred. License and Certifications Physician - State Licensure.
