Registered Nurse - Oncology Radiation (TEMPORARY)

Position Summary At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, our Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case finding, health teaching and counseling. Incumbents provide care supporting to and restorative of health and well-being, while adhering to a medical regimen. Responsibilities Administration of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy & Blood Products. Must be willing to cross‑train in Infusion and Oncology and physical practice. Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients. Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning. Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed. Administer medication. Practice infection control and participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Communicate changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician. Develop and maintain current written plan of care for assigned patients. Set priorities to meet the patient’s needs. Set patient goals and priorities with the patient and/or family. Provide documented evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching. Ensure that patient education and instructions are consistent with that of the physician or designee. Communicate and work effectively with other staff and other departments. Participate in unit or hospital‑based quality assurance activities or committees to contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession at SBSH. Required Experience and Qualifications Must have a minimum of 1‑year of chemotherapy administration experience. Maintain their ability to practice in the State of New York. Under New York State Education Law 6905 (Under New York State Education Law 6905 (commonly referred to as the BSN in 10), all Registered Nurses licensed on or after June 18, 2020, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within 10 years of their initial RN licensure to maintain their ability to practice in the State of New York. Failure to meet this legal requirement may impact your employment status. Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State. BLS Certificate Required by American Heart Association. Minimum of one year cancer care required. ONS Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy certification required or must be obtained within 3 months. Preferred Experience and Qualifications 3+ years of Oncology experience preferred. ONCC Certificate preferred. Cerner/Power Chart EMR preferred. BSN preferred. Travel and Working Conditions As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Pre‑Employment Requirements Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen. Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Successfully complete pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services. Salary and Benefits Anticipated Pay Range: $54.62 - $64.47 / hour. The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
