Under the direction of the Crime Analyst Supervisor and the lead Crime Analyst III, the Crime Analyst (CA) I performs simple to complex functions associated with the operations of the Missing and Unidentified Persons Section (MUPS). Specifically, the CA I performs complex ad hoc queries of the Missing Persons System and Unidentified Persons System, analyzes those results, prepares reports or charts, and disseminates results to local Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) aiding in missing and unidentified persons investigations and identification. Additionally, the CA I acts as a contact for the MUPS concerning California's law enforcement community and out-of-state LEAs in multi-jurisdictional missing and unidentified person investigations.

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.
This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Remote and hybrid schedules are subject to management approval. In addition, approved remote and hybrid schedules may be delayed for training purposes.

ALTERNATE RANGE CRITERIA 494
Established 8/16/19, Pay Letters 19-16 and 19-17
Range A. This range shall apply to those individuals who do not meet the criteria for Range B.
Range B. This range shall apply to persons who have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of 12 months of Crime Analyst I, Range A; who have graduated from a recognized four-year accredited college or university; or who have one year of work experience obtaining, analyzing, and/or disseminating criminal justice information. When the requirements for the particular criteria are met and upon recommendation of the appointing power, the employee shall receive a rate under the provisions of California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.676. Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary wage reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals. The specific rate and hours earned were negotiated and agreed upon by each bargaining unit. The actual monetary impact of these temporary reductions can vary based on your bargaining unit and/or federal and state tax withholdings.
