We're looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused Billing & Credentialing Assistant to join our administrative team. What You'll Do
As the Billing & Credentialing Assistant, you will support the organization's revenue cycle while helping ensure our clients receive timely access to care. You will work closely with clinical, administrative, and finance teams to manage billing, provider credentialing, scheduling, and front office operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Medical Billing
- Assist with preparing, reviewing, and submitting insurance claims including prior authorizations.
- Verify client insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Monitor claims and help resolve denied or unpaid claims.
- Post client payments and verify the accuracy of insurance payments posted through the billing system, resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Respond to client billing questions and maintain accurate billing documentation.
- Maintain fee schedules in the billing system to ensure accurate reimbursement and billing.
- Assists with reporting insurance payments to the Finance team to support bank reconciliations.
Provider Credentialing
- Assist with provider enrollment, credentialing, and recredentialing for Medicaid and commercial insurance plans.
- Maintain credentialing files, licenses, certifications, and required documentation.
- Track renewal deadlines and communicate with insurance companies and providers to ensure timely approvals.
- Update provider information within payer portals and organizational databases.
Client Scheduling & Administrative Support
- Welcome clients with professionalism, compassion, and a trauma-informed approach.
- Verify demographic and insurance information.
- Answer incoming calls and assist clients with scheduling and general inquiries.
- Support front desk operations and help create a positive client experience.
Compliance & Records Management
- Maintain confidential billing and credentialing records in compliance with HIPAA.
- Organize electronic and paper documentation.
- Assist with audits and reporting within medical and behavioral health teams.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and payer requirements.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree, certification preferred).
- Two or more years of experience in medical billing, medical office administration, healthcare administration, or a related role.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and HIPAA compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with behavioral health or substance use disorder billing.
- Experience with Medicaid and commercial insurance credentialing.
- Extensive knowledge of electronic health record systems; AthenaOne platform experience preferred
- Experience in a nonprofit healthcare or human services organization.
- Knowledge of revenue cycle management and payer enrollment processes.
Work Environment
This position is based in our Rochester, New Hampshire office and requires regular interaction with clients, providers, insurance representatives, and staff. The role includes standard office responsibilities and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
