Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $31.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Occasional schedule flexibility may be required, with shifts as early as 7:00 AM or as late as 6:00 PM.

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to support a leading healthcare organization in Houston, TX . This is an excellent opportunity for a laboratory professional who is committed to producing accurate, high-quality results that directly support patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing according to established procedures and protocols.

   

• Prepare, process, and analyze patient specimens while maintaining specimen integrity.

   

• Perform analytical examinations, quality control testing, and result verification.

   

• Operate laboratory instruments and equipment safely and effectively.

   

• Monitor test results and identify abnormal, inconsistent, or questionable findings for appropriate follow-up.

   

• Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

   

• Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and test results.

   

• Follow established quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.

   

• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies and reagents.

   

• Follow laboratory safety, infection control, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

   

• Work collaboratively with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to support timely patient care.

   

• Maintain proficiency in laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and applicable testing methodologies.

   

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and process improvements as assigned.

   

• Perform other laboratory duties as assigned.

   

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required.

   

• Bachelor's degree in Molecular Genetic Technology or completion of an accredited Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science program accepted.

   

• Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience required for candidates with a bachelor's degree.

   

• Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, specimen processing, analytical testing, and quality control.

   

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

   

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

   

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory and healthcare teams.

   

• Strong communication and documentation skills.

   

• Ability to operate laboratory instrumentation and computer systems.

   

• Preferred certifications:
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Blood Banking (BB), Chemistry (C), Hematology (H), Microbiology (M), or Molecular Biology (MB) through ASCP Board of Certification.

     

  • Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) through ASHI.

     

  • Medical Technologist (MT) or Molecular Diagnostics Technologist (MDT) through AMT.
