Why this role matters to our organization This role is critical to the successful design and execution of midstream infrastructure projects supporting our liquid and gas gathering, compression, and produced water operations. The Project Engineer ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. By partnering across technical and operational teams, this role helps drive reliable, cost‑effective project outcomes. Summary The Project Engineer supports the planning, design, and execution of midstream oil and gas projects, including liquid and gas gathering systems, compression facilities, and produced water infrastructure. This role works closely with engineering, operations, and commercial teams to deliver projects that meet safety, regulatory, and cost requirements. The Project Engineer plays a key role in ensuring projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and aligned with operational needs. Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions Support the VP of Engineering in the design, cost estimating, construction, and operational oversight of midstream assets, including gathering systems, compression, and water handling infrastructure Design pipeline gathering systems, including pipe sizing, material selection, routing, LACT units, interconnect piping, pump stations, and truck unloading facilities Develop and maintain P&IDs and other project‑related engineering drawings Specify, solicit bids for, and procure materials and services required for project execution Review and provide input on designs prepared by external engineering firms, vendors, and manufacturers Manage project schedules and track costs throughout the project lifecycle, including post‑project evaluations Ensure all safety and environmental requirements are incorporated into project design and execution Coordinate permitting activities with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies Maintain accurate project documentation, including as‑built drawings and records Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, GIS, ROW, SCADA, and other internal teams to support successful project execution Provide technical support to field operations, including equipment startup, troubleshooting, modifications, and ongoing operational support Support business development efforts through technical input and cost estimating Core Competencies Working knowledge of midstream systems and infrastructure Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills Solid technical aptitude and understanding of engineering principles Effective organization and time management Collaborative, team‑oriented approach Clear and effective communication skills Education and Experience (required) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred) 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in oil and gas midstream or facilities engineering Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, ASME B31.4/8, DOT 192/195) Ability to develop and review technical documentation, including engineering designs, plans, and specifications Experience coordinating with external contractors, vendors, and engineering firms Understanding of project lifecycle phases, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning Familiarity with project management tools for tracking schedules, costs, and deliverables Education and Experience (preferred) Advanced degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred) Prior experience working in the DJ Basin Other Requirements Must be able to pass a pre‑employment background screening Ability to legally work in the US without sponsorship Compensation Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $109,200 - $176,300 annually in this location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amount listed above. Additional buy‑up plan option available with premiums covered at 75% for employee and dependents Long‑term disability, life insurance, and AD&D covered by Bison. 401k plan: Bison matches 100% of employee contributions up to the first 4% of compensation. Location This position is located Denver, Colorado. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered, however, it is the expectation that the selected individual will be available at the work location. No relocation or travel assistance will be provided by the Company for this position. This position operates in an office environment. This entails working inside in an office space wherein employee may be provided a public work station (cubicle) or private office. From time to time, the role will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, dust, electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered. Physical Demands In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites, the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individuals might be asked to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or crawl. Individuals might be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. in the performance of this position. Position Type and Working Hours This is a full‑time position. We operate on a 9/80 work schedule. Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on working Fridays. Employee must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and to participate in occasional meetings, events, seminars, conferences, or other activities outside of typical work hours. Employees responsible for project operations are expected to monitor and, in some cases, respond to emails, calls, or texts outside of business hours. Travel Occasional travel to work site locations may be expected. Overnight stays may be required from time to time for training, seminars, field visits, or visits to onsite locations.
