Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant supports LTC and Annuities operations and projects within the US FSSC area. You will be responsible for preparing financial close processes, including journal entry preparation, detailed calculations and financial analyses.Position Responsibilities:Perform accounting and control activities for IFRS17, OSFI and NAIC results and develop and implement related process improvementsEnsure complete, accurate and timely accounting activities across multiple accounting bases including complex accounting transactions, complex accounting systems, review of various analyses, footnotes, and financial statementsResponsible for producing contributions to annual reporting including audited financial statements and annual statement schedules, including streamlining submissions and underlying processesDevelop a strong understanding of processes and products, creating and maintaining process documentation and training materials as necessaryChampion knowledge-building and usage of multiple automated systems which support the monthly and quarterly accounting processesSupport SOX/MAR for assigned processes and related documentationManage income statement testing, including coordination of audit requests, and analyze opportunities for improvementPrepare and reconcile several balance sheet accounts in support of Account Ownership and QAP testingRequired Qualifications:University Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experienceCPA designation an assetTypically, 4 or more years of experienceStrong written and oral communication skills Detail-oriented, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills Self-starter and team player with a high level of initiative, strong work ethic and the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, Alteryx, and Power BIDemonstrates a working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations) Demonstrates emerging to solid proficiency in own discipline; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.
