This role focuses on assembling and inspecting small, precise components used in medical devices within both cleanroom and non-cleanroom environments. You will work with microscopes, specialized machinery, and small hand tools to build and finish parts such as coils, housings, and other components for products like stents, catheters, and leads. The position involves detailed manual work, following written instructions, and adapting to different assembly lines as you become cross-trained across multiple areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform coil winding operations in a cleanroom environment, including placing coils on winding mechanisms, wrapping them around spindles, and supporting subsequent assembly processes.
• Use microscopes to inspect, cut, and manipulate fine wires and components for medical products, spending up to 30–50% of the day under magnification in some areas and up to 60% or more in others.
• Work with very small parts, often about the size of a pen tip, ensuring accuracy and quality throughout the assembly process.
• Follow detailed written work instructions and travelers to complete assembly steps consistently and correctly across different production lines.
• Operate molding equipment in the cleanroom, receiving parts from molding machines, inspecting them, and deburring to remove excess material and smooth surfaces.
• Use small hand tools such as tweezers, pliers, files, skivs/knives, and small wrenches to assemble, deburr, and finish components with and without the aid of microscopes.
• Perform repetitive inspection and finishing tasks in the molding area, maintaining focus and high attention to detail while seated for most of the shift.
• Work on CEA assembly lines in the cleanroom, assembling specific components for various medical products while seated and using microscopes for a significant portion of the shift.
• Support laser welding operations in the cleanroom once cross-trained, using laser welding machines and microscopes to weld and finish very small medical components.
• Maintain high levels of hand dexterity and attention to detail when working with laser welding and other precision processes.
• Operate automated presses and stamping machines in the implantable housings area to produce small metal parts and casings for medical devices.
• Load materials into machines, run production processes, and remove finished parts, inspecting them for accuracy and completeness.
• Deburr and file parts produced in the housings area to remove excess material and ensure smooth, finished surfaces, sometimes using microscopes during inspection.
• Alternate between sitting and standing for extended periods, including full 8-hour shifts on your feet or seated, depending on the process and area.
• Use machines and equipment to aid in assemblies while maintaining a safe and organized work area.
• Adhere to cleanroom gowning requirements, including wearing appropriate protective attire and eyewear, and follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Participate in cross-training across multiple assembly lines and areas, remaining adaptable and open to learning new processes and tasks.
• Contribute to a culture of safety by following established safety practices and procedures and supporting team-based wellness activities.
• Consistently build high-quality medical components and parts that meet strict quality and regulatory standards.

Essential Skills

• Strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills suitable for working with very small parts and detailed assembly tasks.
• 4–6+ months of experience in medical manufacturing or working with small parts in a production or assembly environment.
• 4–6+ months of experience using microscopes for inspection or assembly work.
• Ability to work effectively in a cleanroom environment, including following gowning procedures and cleanliness protocols.
• Experience with assembly work, including working from written instructions and travelers.
• Comfort using small hand tools such as tweezers, pliers, files, knives, and small wrenches throughout the day.
• Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per shift, with flexibility to alternate between both as needed.
• Adaptability and willingness to be cross-trained across multiple lines and departments.
• Mechanical aptitude, especially for roles in the housings area working with automated presses and stamping machines.
• Ability to maintain high attention to detail and quality when working under microscopes and with precision equipment.
• Comfort working in environments that may be repetitive while maintaining focus and accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in medical device assembly, laser welding, coil winding, or microscope-based assembly is a plus..
• Experience with medical device manufacturing processes and standards is advantageous.
• Activities that demonstrate good hand dexterity, such as sewing or other fine-detail work, can be a strong transferable skill.
• Willingness to work with both cleanroom and non-cleanroom equipment, including presses, stamping machines, and laser welding machines.
• Openness to moving between different areas and lines to find the best fit and support production needs.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very clean, well-maintained facility that includes both cleanroom and non-cleanroom areas. Cleanroom roles require full gowning, including smocks, booties, hair nets, beard nets as applicable, and safety glasses, while allowing make-up and jewelry in accordance with safety guidelines. In these areas, you will primarily work at stations equipped with coil winding machines, molding machines, microscopes, and small hand tools, spending significant portions of the day seated or standing depending on the specific process. The environment is structured, quiet, and focused on precision work. Some positions are located in the non-cleanroom housings area, which is louder due to multiple machines and has a slight oil smell that most people adjust to within about a week. In this area, safety glasses are required at all times, and steel-toed shoe covers are provided due to the presence of heavy equipment; ear plugs are available if desired. Dress code emphasizes safety: skirts are permitted as long as no skin is exposed, and leggings or pants under skirts are acceptable; hijabs are welcome, with the requirement that athletic styles be worn and tucked into shirts for safety. Across all areas, you must be comfortable alternating between sitting and standing, sometimes for an entire 8-hour shift in one position. The facility also offers an employee wellness room, a workout facility, a ping pong table in the break room, and walking trails around the building, creating a supportive and health-conscious work environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.53/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
