Our organization is in search of a BE/BC General Gastroenterologist to become part of our team at UT Henderson, TX (34 miles east of Tyler, TX) and UT Jacksonville, TX (27 miles south of Tyler, TX).

Overview of Your Role:

• Collaborate with a team of 4 physicians, 2 advanced practice providers, and additional support staff.
• Provide services to two rural short-term acute care hospitals: Henderson (96 beds) and Jacksonville (33 beds).
• This is a full-time employed position.
• No EUS or ERCP procedures are required.
• Engage in both inpatient and outpatient care.
• Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (including clinic and procedure days).
• Anticipate seeing 20-30 patients daily.
• Opportunity to mentor residents.

About Our Medical School:

The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is the inaugural medical school in East Texas and the seventh within The University of Texas System. Its mission focuses on training future healthcare professionals to address the unique needs of rural and underserved communities, particularly in East Texas.

The institution offers a comprehensive Graduate Medical Education program, featuring 20 residency and fellowship training programs that equip graduates with specialized skills in areas such as family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, surgery, and anesthesia. Additionally, the Master of Biotechnology program emphasizes medical research and biotechnology innovation, preparing students for careers in medical research, diagnostics, and therapeutic development.

Currently, a five-story, 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building (MEB) is under construction in Tyler's Midtown District. It is part of a broader expansion of medical education programs throughout the UT Health East Texas Health System, with completion expected in the fall of 2025.

About Our Facilities:

UT Health Henderson is a 96-bed short-term acute care hospital that provides a wide range of medical services, including a 24-hour emergency department designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level III Stroke Center. The facility is equipped with advanced surgical suites, cutting-edge diagnostic imaging, obstetrics, orthopedics, general surgery, and a dedicated sleep laboratory.

UT Health Jacksonville is a 33-bed short-term acute care facility that delivers high-quality, patient-centered care. This facility includes a 24-hour emergency care center, recognized as a Level IV Trauma Center and a Level IV Acute Stroke Facility, offering critical care for various medical emergencies. It features a six-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for patients needing close monitoring and advanced care. The Labor and Delivery Department includes modern LDRP suites (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum) to ensure a seamless childbirth experience, along with a Level I nursery for healthy newborns. The hospital is also equipped with fully operational surgical suites and state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology, including 3D mammography, enhancing early detection and diagnostic capabilities.

Both UT Health Henderson and UT Health Jacksonville are accredited by The Joint Commission and recently received an "A" grade in the 2025 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, reflecting their ongoing commitment to excellence in patient safety and quality care.

UT Health East Texas encompasses 9 hospitals, over 90 clinics, the Olympic Plaza Tower, 13 regional rehabilitation facilities, two freestanding emergency centers, regional home health services across 41 counties, an EMS fleet of more than 50 ambulances and four helicopters, and a comprehensive seven-trauma center care network, including the region's only Level 1 trauma facility. In 2024, we expanded our network with six Urgent Care clinics. Our team consists of nearly 400 employed providers and over 7,000 staff members.
