Salary: $1200 - $1292* Per Credit Hour Classification: Adjunct Faculty Reports to: Dean of Nursing/Allied Health

Olympic College is seeking adjunct faculty to support instruction within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Programs. Adjunct faculty are administratively supervised by and report to the Dean of Allied Health. In the delivery of EMS education, adjunct faculty work in close collaboration with the EMS Program Coordinator and designated program staff to ensure instructional methods, course content, and student assessment align with professional standards, program outcomes, and applicable accreditation and credentialing requirements.

This position plays a key role in ensuring students receive effective, evidence-based EMS education through lecture, lab, clinical, and field experiences. The ideal candidate will bring teaching expertise, professional EMS experience, and a commitment to student success in a diverse learning environment.

Essential Functions

  • Provide instruction for the EMT courses including didactic, skills labs, clinical supervision and evaluation, and/or simulation-based instruction.
  • Provide mentorship, assistance, and remediation to student in support mastery of course objectives and outcomes.
  • Coordinate and deliver didactic, lab, clinical, and/or field internship instruction, ensuring consistency and alignment with course outcomes.
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Remain current on industry-recognized means of instruction and learning processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required.
  • Document each student's progress; determine, in collaboration with the student, a plan for achieving success.
  • Participate in theory and clinical course evaluation identifying both strengths and areas for development.
  • Participate in course planning, evaluation, and curriculum feedback in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and Medical Program Director.
  • Participate in meetings, orientations, trainings, and evaluation activities for assigned quarters as needed.
  • Establish and maintain relations with internal and external constituencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator supporting the effective administration and delivery of the EMS Paramedicine Program. These may include, but are not limited to:
    • Clinical coordination/clinical site placement
    • Serving in the role of lead instructor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a minimum of an Associate degree from an accredited institution or minimum of three (3) years documented experience coordinating or delivering EMS education or administration in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of field experience at or above the highest program level being taught
    • For EMT program, EMT experience or higher
    • For Paramedic program, Paramedic experience or higher
  • Possess a professional healthcare credential, such as EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, RN, or equivalent.
  • Have experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care, including field or clinical settings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of instructional methods, including course delivery, skills assessment, and remediation techniques.
  • Have teaching experience sufficient to deliver course content, guide hands-on skill development, and support student learning.
  • Understand the guidelines and requirements set forth by both CAAHEP-accredited programs and the Washington State Department of Health relevant to EMS education.
  • Current certification as an EMS Evaluator in Washington State.
  • Certification as a Basic Life Support instructor by the American Heart Association- Healthcare Provider.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare, science, or education-related field.
  • Washington State Department of Health Senior EMS Instructor certification.
  • Experience teaching in a CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic or EMS education program.
  • Familiarity with the National EMS Education Standards and evidence-informed clinical practice.
  • Experience using learning management systems, simulation equipment, and EMS instructional technology.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

Final salary contracts will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.

Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire; Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement. The list of benefits that may be available after is as follows:

  • The employee must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of the campus to respond to workplace reporting requirements at the time of hiring. Frequent travel to Olympic College campuses or other sites may occur.
