Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as an Advanced RN specializing in critical care float nursing. This role involves delivering direct patient care across various critical care units, including the ICU and Emergency Department, as well as floating to medical-surgical units such as Acute Medical Services, Medical Oncology, Surgical Orthopedics, SSU, Acute Rehab, and Transitional Care Facilities based on organizational needs.

General Summary

The Critical Care Float Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care by applying the nursing process and demonstrating clinical expertise aligned with professional ethical standards. This position requires adaptability and a commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure a safe care environment.
• Maintain and care for central lines and prevent surgical site infections following policy guidelines.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education to support health outcomes.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance quality, and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.
• Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring data to support clinical decision-making and compliance.
• Collaborate and communicate with physicians and team members to improve patient outcomes.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Engage patients and families with timely communication and education to enhance their experience and support recovery.
• Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to develop skills and knowledge.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of nursing experience is preferred.

Requirements

• Current RN license valid in the state or compact licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Mental and Physical Demands

This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, stooping, and twisting.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
