The City of Pleasanton is seeking Police Officers for the Police Department. The department is organized into three divisions: Operations, Investigations, and Support Services. The Operations Division includes patrol, the Traffic Unit, and the Alternate Response Unit (ARU). The Investigation Division manages the Criminal Investigations Unit, Youth and Community Services, Personnel and Training, Special Enforcement Unit, and community outreach and social media. It also provides in‑service training and certified courses to ensure compliance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The Support Services Division includes Dispatch, Records, and is responsible for public records management. Responsibilities Efficiently responds to and accurately investigates criminal activities and incidents; conducts crime scene investigations such as evidence collection, interrogation, and field identification; evaluates and documents case facts. Observes and issues oral/written warnings or written citations for parking or moving violations; investigates, reports, and documents traffic incidents; directs traffic when necessary. Walks or drives through assigned area to look for law‑violating conditions, deter crime, and address public safety hazards. Retrieves, identifies, and returns found property; restores order, protects life and property, and provides emergency aid to incapacitated persons. Participates in surveillance, establishes and maintains contact, and gathers criminal activity data; participates in planning and execution of raids and searches; enforces laws and ordinances; apprehends suspects. Participates in preparation and presentation of case evidence in a court of law. Provides on‑the‑job training and evaluation for recruit/trainee police officers. When assigned, performs administrative duties to maintain efficient department operations. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; prior law‑enforcement experience and some college coursework in criminology, police sciences or related field is desirable. Age: Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment. Certification: Must possess a Basic Certificate from P.O.S.T. at the time of appointment. Vision/Hearing: 20/100 uncorrected vision in each eye, correctable to 20/30 or better; normal color vision; hearing loss not exceeding specified limits. License: Valid Class C California driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance. Background Investigation: Satisfactory completion of a thorough background investigation; no convictions that could result in state or federal imprisonment. Pre‑Employment Testing: Successful completion of drug screen, medical, psychological, and polygraph examinations. Must have at least one year in a California law‑enforcement agency and possess a current Basic California P.O.S.T. Certificate. Out‑of‑state applicants with at least 18 months as a full‑time sworn officer or deputy sheriff must obtain a POST Basic Course Waiver.
