Registered Nurse - GYN - Nights

Job Summary Location: Methodist Women’s Hospital, 707 N. 190th Plaza – Elkhorn, NE. Schedule: 6:45PM – 7:15AM, 12‑hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays. The GYN RN provides compassionate, specialized care to a diverse range of patients on our GYN Unit. This role offers the opportunity to be cross‑trained in Mother‑Baby and High‑Risk OB, as well as assist with recoveries in labor & delivery. The patient population includes medical admissions from the ED and clinics, surgical patients (Uro‑GYN, breast, and select general surgeries), postpartum couples, NICU mothers, adolescent GYN patients, and outpatient infusions—often for pregnant patients. New graduate RNs and experienced nurses are welcome to apply. Responsibilities Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria. Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to patient needs. Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the patient’s ongoing nursing care needs. Include data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate. Prioritize data collection according to the patient’s immediate needs. Use assessment findings in discharge planning. Develop, review, and revise individualized plans of care to address the patient’s nursing needs for optimum outcomes. Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate. Provide teaching specific to the patient’s health problem. Plans reflect continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge or transfer. Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner. Follow nursing protocols and standards of care for the unit. Use current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards and research literature. Evaluate patient care to determine response to interventions for optimal outcomes. Monitor outcomes and document patient response. Evaluate the patient’s capabilities or limitations related to nursing and medical interventions. Monitor ability to manage care needs after dismissal. Give complete verbal or written shift change reports using SBAR content. Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to product information, policy, and procedure manuals. Maintain a professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization’s mission. Communicate effectively to solve problems at the personal and unit level. Participate in meetings and/or committees as needed. Initiate action to correct, prevent, or minimize risks to the patient, family, or employees. Complete appropriate report forms for any risk. Communicate unresolved issues to appropriate personnel. Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and Professional Standards of Practice. Ensure task, person, communication, and feedback align with expected outcomes. Act fiscally responsibly. Charge accurately for supplies and equipment usage. Follow policies for resource use. Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required or obtained within 5 years for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital‑based experience in Mother‑Baby if applicable. No prior experience required for other specialties. License & Certifications: Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multi‑state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) – preferred at time of hire; required within 3 months. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 1 year for GYN/OB; preferred within 3 months for Mother‑Baby. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required within 3 months for Mother‑Baby. Preferred certifications from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year: Low‑Risk Neonatal Nursing (RNC.LRN), Maternal Newborn Nursing (RNC.MNN), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with patients, families, and staff. Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and utilize computer skills required for the hospital information system. Physical Requirements: Weight demand up to 50 pounds. Frequent activities include balancing, carrying, typing, etc. Repetitive motions and bending are common. Physical hazards such as noise and wet floors may occur. Job Hazards: Electrical shock, radiation, chemical agents, biological agents, sharps, hazardous drugs, and mechanical hazards related to patient care. Equipment / Machinery / Tools: Pressurized gas, hazardous drugs, and equipment requiring personal protective equipment.
