Funeral Director

Overview As a licensed Funeral Director, you will facilitate funeral arrangements, preside over services, and ensure compliance with all mortuary and health regulations. You will work closely with families to honor their wishes while providing compassionate support. Responsibilities Communicate with deceased next of kin, obtain contact information, and schedule arrangement appointments. Conduct arrangement conferences, discuss needs, and summarize desired outcomes. Promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services, as well as merchandise such as catering, flowers, music, and memorial products. Authorize merchandise and service contract revisions and manage service arrangements. Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, and graveside services, ensuring professional and caring conduct. Verify casket placement, adjust dressing and attire, and ensure removal of personal belongings per arrangements. Inspect services against contractual arrangements, correct discrepancies, and guide service team members. Gather leads for pre‑need services while interacting with families and guests. Plan events: order music, flowers, catering, prepare event rooms, and clean up post‑service. Produce memorial products (photos, obituaries, online memorials) and handle attendant duties such as parking, driving, ushering, and pallbearer tasks. Represent the location at community or charity events, promoting the facility and services. Report to manager, seek guidance, and adapt to new work structures, processes, and priorities. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited mortuary science program. Current Funeral Director license in the practicing state. Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Preferred industry experience. Strong cognitive ability, problem‑solving, and learning agility. Positive attitude, self‑motivation, and drive for continuous improvement. Ability to build professional and trusting relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Public speaking skills with ability to influence and gain consensus. Proficiency with databases and automated processes. Proficiency in MS Office. Work Conditions Work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather. Professional business attire required when in contact with families. Work may require frequent sitting or standing for up to 6 hours per day, climbing stairs, and manual handling of up to 150 pounds. Flexibility for nights, weekends, and occasional off‑hours services.
