SENIOR TA SPECIALIST

SAMHSA: TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING PROJECTS

The Senior TA Specialist has a strong training and technical assistance background in the areas of substance use/prevention, behavioral health, and mental health to support the SAMSHA Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Project. The Senior TA Specialist will provide TA to SAMHSA grantees through a variety of modalities.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

• Develop in-person, online, and web-based tutorials.
• Provide TA and/or training in a culturally appropriate manner.
• Develop two comprehensive resource documents to include but are not limited to in-depth literature searches on key topical areas identified. These comprehensive resources may focus on practical knowledge pertaining to selected effective intervention strategies, implementation guidance, and appropriate evaluation approaches.
• Develop service plans and provide TA and/or training delivered through a wide variety of methods including but not limited to telephone, email, virtual, through video conferencing, web-based, onsite at grantee’s location, or at regional or national meetings/workshops.
• Provide content expertise in implementing SAMHSA priorities and initiatives.
• Work in partnership with SAMSHA to deliver high quality TTA services.
• Maintain regular and timely communication SAMSHA on delivery of TTA and progress toward quality improvement.
• Participate in meetings including but not limited to National SAMHSA meetings, team conferences, and one-on-one meetings with the Sr. Trainer.
• Provide various progress reports.
• Support emerging SAMHSA initiatives and priorities.

Required Skills

• Familiarity with SAMHSA and the fields of substance use/prevention, behavioral health, and mental health.
• Experience developing and delivering training using a variety of approaches such as in person and online platforms.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Sustained concentration and attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Risk management skills (e.g., identification/ analysis).

Required Experience

• A minimum of a BA or BS Degree—with a preference for a Master’s degree —in psychology, counseling, social work or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in adult education and/or technical assistance focusing on the areas of substance use/prevention, behavioral health, and/or mental health.
• Experience identifying gaps in existing TA and/or training initiatives that address behavioral health issues and identify potential audiences for TA and/or training.
• Experience translating science, research-based and practice-based knowledge into user-friendly applications that support building organizational capacity and developing workforce skills needed by targeted audiences to do effective work to address behavioral health issues.
• Experience developing and implementing a process to assess and identify the TA and/or training needs of the target audience and identifying materials and courses to be developed or review existing curricula and when appropriate, develop a plan for modifying existing curricula.
• Experience developing service plans and providing TA and/or training delivered through a wide variety of methods including but not limited to telephone, email, virtual, web-based, onsite at grantee’s location, or at regional or national meetings/workshops. Experience providing TA and/or training to a diverse audience and on an array of mental health and/or substance abuse topics.
• Demonstrated experience supporting grantees to improve the effectiveness and quality of program operations.
• Demonstrated skill and ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to various audiences.
• Demonstrated skills and ability in developing accessible materials, providing content that is accessible, and assuring that all meetings are housed in accessible meeting spaces.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating group discussions and presenting to a range of audiences.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing data and assisting programs to make data driving decisions.
• Intermediate to advanced level experience with recent versions of Microsoft Suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer; ability to use current webinar technology and audio conferencing. 
• Familiarity with Smart Sheets preferred
